By Guest Blogger Julie Galloway, marketing and communications (and a mother of a Kindergartner) at Calvary Day School

Kindergarten . . . public school, private school, magnet school, homeschool?? Evaluating your options for education can be very difficult and overwhelming!  I know from experience – one year ago I was exploring my options on where to enroll my oldest for Kindergarten.  This decision where to educate your child is so important.  It will be the place that will not only influence them on HOW to think, but will help build a foundation for their character and future learning.  I don’t know about you, but this feels like a daunting task!

calvary2I wish I would have had a convenient resource available to me to help make sense of all of the options so that I could have been more relaxed and enjoyed that time of life with my family.  I would have loved to have had access to experts in early childhood development and education to help answer my questions about preparing for Kindergarten and how to know what type of school is the best option for my family.  Some of the questions I had:

  • How do I know if my child is ready for kindergarten?
  • When does behavior become a concern?
  • My child doesn’t know how to read; is he already behind?
  • Can my child can make it through a whole day in a classroom?
  • What does a day look like in Kindergarten? Do they take naps?
  • How does the school manage students on different academic levels?
  • What is the philosophy of the school?
  • What should I look for in a curriculum and what does that even mean?
  • What is the process for getting into a school?

calvaryclimbLuckily for you, Calvary Day School is doing just that.CDS is inviting all preschool parents to Kindergarten Prep 101 – a free, fun, and informative evening as you begin your journey on preparing for Kindergarten!

In addition to Kindergarten, families often desire to make changes in their child(ren)’s education throughout their school career.  CDS offers curriculum for children 2 years of age through 12th grade.    They offer monthly events where you are able to visit the campus and learn more about the Calvary Day School difference.  Tours and shadow opportunities are available as well.  This is a great way to learn more about who Calvary is, why they do what they do, and how your family can get connected.

calvary1So after doing my research last year, our family chose Calvary Day School.  Our family has felt very welcome and connected to Calvary Day School and really believed in their philosophy of teaching children.  We have found that CDS is a community – a community of students, families, teachers and staff that welcome new members with open arms. We support each other, love each other, help each other, and pray for each other.

My momma’s heart smiles on a daily basis as I witness firsthand how the teachers and staff truly care for all of the kids at the school.  My son comes home every day with pure joy on his face and is so proud to tell me all he has experienced and learned.  I know for certain that we made the decision that was best for our family and I would love for you to find the place that is just right for your family, also.  Kindergarten Prep 101 is a great step to figuring this out.
