Every parent wants to raise self-reliant, confident and happy children. Yet in today’s fast-paced world focused on achievement, we sometimes feel “powerless over overindulgence, overprotection, overscheduling and expectations of perfection” (Wendy Mogel, 2013). Dr. Wendy Mogel, an internationally acclaimed clinical psychologist, parenting expert and author of the New York Times bestselling parenting books, The Blessing of a Skinned Knee and The Blessing of a B Minus, provides an inspiring, humorous and effective approach to help parents meet the day-to-day challenge of raising children. New Garden Friends School is pleased to bring Dr. Mogel to speak to our community on March 5 at 7:00 pm at theNew Garden Friends School Page-Frederiksen Campus.

Dr. Mogel left her established practice in order to study Judaism and become an educator to both parents and professionals in the field of family counseling. “Her books reflect the common sense and down-to-earth advice she offers. Although she clearly draws on Jewish teachings as well as on her psychology training, much of her wisdom is applicable to families of all faiths. As guiding principles, Mogel encourages parents to slow down and value each moment, to enjoy the uniqueness of each child, and to celebrate everyday occasions in childrearing. She warns against parental pressure and overprotectiveness and champions time-tested values of moderation, the value of work, gratitude, and teaching faith. With great warmth and humor, she gives examples from her own family life and those whom she has counseled” (Brodie, Kay, 2000).
