It’s hard not to feel inspired after reading about the three lovely ladies we are profiling in this month’s Moms on the Move feature. These moms are not only movers and shakers in our community, but also leaders in their work and heroes in their homes.

Casey Bomar

Who would have imagined the fun of finger painting could evolve into a growing business? Well, it did just that for local mom, Casey Bomar. Painting has always been a hobby for Casey, but one day she found herself frustrated with the way her paint brush was working. She instinctively used her fingers to get the look she wanted – and to her surprise, she developed a love – and an amazing talent – for the art of finger painting.

At first she only shared her hand painted art among friends through a private Facebook page. Her husband, Chad, who always encouraged her to take her gift of art to the next level, secretly made her Facebook page public one day, and that became the push she needed to start her business, Hand Painted. Today, Casey creates everything from funky chickens to brightly colored cows to anything that inspires her whimsical side. Custom orders are the vast majority of her business, and she takes orders through her Facebook page.

She says Hand Painted is a “fit it in when I can” type of business that she runs alongside being a busy mom to Lucy (12) and Wade (9) and office manager at her husband’s law firm.  Casey is also an avid supporter of Second Harvest Food Bank and the Davie Community Foundation. She loves to be outside, whether it’s gardening or hiking, and her family is always seeking a new adventure. Casey adds, “I’m trying to get the kids to all 50 states before they graduate high school. So far, they’ve seen 25 and we’re adding many more states to their list with a three-week cross country trip this summer.”

Carrie Collins

On any given work day, Carrie and her co-workers can be found promoting fitness and wellness goals, providing a safe place for children, teaching immigrants how to read, instilling life-saving water skills, helping to stop summer learning loss, building confidence in kids, and providing a social network for seniors. As the Vice President/Chief Marketing, Membership and Communications Officer for the YMCA of NWNC, Carrie says the best part of her job is seeing the difference the Y makes in people’s lives every day. “I’m so proud of all of my co-workers and the work they do. It energizes me,” she added.

Carrie originally came to Winston-Salem (from Ohio) for an internship at ISP Sports (now IMG College), and 20 years later, she calls the Triad home along with her husband, Greg, and their two sons: Drew (8) and Ben (5). Carrie has worked in marketing and communications for the majority of her career with local companies like Dewey’s Bakery/Salem Baking Company, Primo Water Corporation and the City of Winston-Salem.

When asked what she, as a mom, likes best about the Y, she responded, “The Y is literally a mom’s best friend!  Most people only think of the Y as a place to work out, but it really has so much more to offer families. There is no other place that can be such a tremendous partner in youth development for families than at the Y.”

When not at work, Carrie enjoys time with family and friends, most notably at local sporting events around town. She’s also active on the board for Leadership Winston-Salem, the Winston-Salem Youth Hockey Association, and Winston-Salem State University. She is an active volunteer at her sons’ elementary school, and enjoys her bible and book clubs, as well as sewing window treatments (when she can fit it in!).

Kimberly Wilson

An award-winning REALTOR for Berkshire Hathaways HomeServices Yost and Little Realty in Greensboro, Kimberly often gets asked what she likes most about living in Greensboro. And she always says it’s Greensboro’s wonderful small town feel, and its big town amenities. “You can go to the grocery store, out for dinner or see a concert and run into friends. I love that you can be involved in a true community of people working together to make this a great place to live.”

Originally from Texas, Kimberly moved to Greensboro 17 years ago. It’s here where she met and married her husband, Scott, and had their first child, Alyse, now 13. For a brief time they moved to Texas but came back to Greensboro for better school choices and the hometown feel. Today Kimberly and Scott are also parents to Lily Kate, 11, and the four of them enjoy family time, travel to the beach and mountains, and watching Alyse and Lily Kate participate in their respective worlds of theatre and horseback riding.

A recipient of Chairman’s Circle Gold, and a member of BHH’s top 2% agents nationwide, Kimberly credits her husband for finding the career of her dreams. Kimberly grew up in a family who owned furniture stores, and after several years of selling retail furniture herself, Kimberly and Scott briefly opened and ran a wholesale furniture manufacturing business. When the economy turned, Scott suggested she try real estate, a natural transition for Kimberly with a background in furniture sales and degrees in interior design and architecture.

“I really did think he was crazy at first, but he knows me well and was right, it is a great fit for me. There is nothing better than seeing a family go from having no idea where to start in the search for their home to seeing the joy on their faces when I hand them the keys.”
