By Katie Moosbrugger

You've made it through the baby days and elementary school but suddenly find yourself staring in wonder at the child in front of you as they begin to go through changes. How do you properly deal with attitude changes, increased school work and the pull of extra-curricular activities? How do you tell when they're being honest with you and when is the best time to start talking about dating and physical affections?

Welcome to the tween and teen years. Just when you think you’ve mastered parenthood, a whole new phase begins. Making the transition is a challenge for any parent which is why we’re thrilled to announce a first-of-its-kind parenting consortium to tackle these tough issues.

Join us on Saturday, March 16 for a half-day seminar entitled Parenting Boot Camp: Surviving the Teen and Tween Years. Triad Moms on Main is co-hosting this event along with the popular teen/tween site Ten to Twenty Parenting  and TruthBlazer , a nationally recognized business focused on lie detection and body language.

The program will feature five hard-hitting training sessions for parents. Each session is presented by a local expert in the respective field. These include:

~ Helping You – and Your Teenager - Navigate the Dating Years, by Dr. Kathleen Coman, a Clinical Psychologist with Cornerstone Health Care.

~ Raising  Confident and "Bully-Proof" Kids: Building Self Esteem and Healthy Body Image in Young Men and Women, by Allison Chapple, Licensed Professional Counselor

~ Seeing Through Your Teens Lies, by Blanca Cobb, Lie Detection and Body Language Expert, and founder and president of the NC based TruthBlazer

~ Smart Phone, Confused Parent. What are the Hot Sites for Teens and Tweens Today?, by Kristen Daukas, managing  director of Social Media at Atlantic Social Media Group as well as the founder of Ten to Twenty Parenting.com.

~ The Parents’ Toolbox:  Academic Issues and Solutions, by Dr. William Sloan, Administrative and Clinical Director of Sloan Academics, Inc.

The seminar starts at 9 am and concludes at 2:30 pm. It will take place at the centrally located  Piedmont Triad Apartment Association, 7015 Albert Pick Road, suite D, in Greensboro (near the airport) - easy to get to no matter where in the Triad you live!

Now through February 28, tickets are on-sale for $25; after that the price goes to $35. Click here to go directly to the ticket page. Lunch is included in the ticket price as well as coffee and pastries in the morning.

Seating is limited to the first 65 parents who sign up, and space fills up fast. Don’t delay…this is a great opportunity to get real information on this next stage of parenting!

Stay tuned by “liking” us on Facebook . We will be sharing updates about the conference on a regular basis.

Special thanks to the YMCA of Northwest NC, Cobb Orthodontics, The Center for Cognitive Behavior Therapy, and Cornerstone Health Care for sponsoring this event. Additional sponsorships are available. For more information, contact Kristen Daukas at kdaukas@gmail.com.

Please let me know if this bootcamp happens again. I would love to go, but we are doing the Color Run as a family and I can't make it!
