Where Do Educators Choose to Send Their Children to School?

There are many colleges and universities right here in the Triad boasting incredible faculty members with varying talents and areas of expertise. When it comes time to enroll their children in school, do they turn to public, private, or other options?

New Garden Friends School has seen its parent population of educators grow; currently 39% of their student body are the children of local educators. Those who work in higher education are uniquely positioned to see the value of the difference a private school education can make in the lives of their children.

New Garden Friends School is the Triad’s only independent preschool through 12th grade school built upon the long-held standards of extraordinary Friends schools. The school was founded in 1971 with the goal of educating children from differing backgrounds together in a positive, inclusive, and safe environment. Find out more at www.ngfs.org.

One of the Most Important Parent Talks You’ll Hear

Special Speaker: John Trautwein
Wednesday, March 6 at 7:00 p.m.
Forsyth Country Day School auditorium
Free and open to the public!

Come hear John’s inspirational story and learn how parents can support their kids and be informed about teen mental health resilience and suicide prevention.

At this free event, John Trautwein shares his personal story of tragedy and hope. When John and his wife Susie lost their teenage son Will to suicide in 2010 they saw no warning signs that their popular and apparently happy son was struggling. To raise awareness about teen suicide and the challenges teens face in today’s world, they created the Will to Live Foundation. John is a former Major League Baseball player, an international business executive, and author of My Living WillLearn more here.

Scouting News from Old Hickory Council

February 2019 brought historic change to the Boys Scouts of America as it introduced a new name, Scouts BSA, for its flagship program for youth ages 11 to 18. Along with that change Girl Troops will be offered for the first time. Scouts BSA girls only troops will offer the same program opportunities as the all boy troops, including a pathway to the prestigious Eagle Scout award. Girl Troops are now forming throughout Forsyth County and northwest North Carolina. To find out about units forming in your area contact Craig Depuy at the Old Hickory Council at 336.760.2900 or visit OldHickoryCouncil.org.

Spring is also a great time for boys to join Scouts BSA as many Cub Scouts are crossing over into Scouting and can register in time to attend Summer Camp with their troop at Camp Raven Knob. To find a Boy Troop visit BeAScout.org.  Adventure is Waiting—Join Scouts, BSA today!
