A few years ago, a baby doll was released by a Spanish Toymaker.  It is a doll that comes with a special halter top for the baby’s young “mothers” to wear as they pretend to breast-feed their babies. The halter top has daisies that cover the little girls’ nipples and come undone as the flaps of a nursing bra would.  The doll makes sucking noises as it “feeds.”

This doll was very controversial when it was first released, and for some reason, it has been making headlines again this week.  VH1 did a spoof on it, bloggers have written about it, and even the news has interviewed little girls and parents to get their reactions.

Opinions have been on every end of the spectrum as you can imagine.  Those who like the doll say it is a natural thing to breastfeed and that little girls often pretend to breastfeed with their baby dolls anyway, so what is the harm?  Those opposed say we are teaching kids to grow up too early and ask why we need to show them how to breastfeed when they have not even begun puberty.  They think it is hypocritical that we are trying to prevent young children from getting pregnant in the first place, yet we introduce this doll.

Then there are those in the middle on their opinion and they say the doll isn’t harmful, but it simply makes them feel uncomfortable and they don’t think a doll like this is necessary for kids.

So TMoM wants to know, what is your take?  Do you like this doll?  Would you buy it for your child?  Does it make you uncomfortable?  Share you thoughts!
