In February 2023, Go Make Coffee Co. opened its doors in the Lexington/Welcome area of North Carolina. The coffee shop was graciously gifted to Journey Church of Lexington by another church in 2022. Journey Church set forth redesigning and rebranding the coffee shop with one mission in mind: to provide quality coffee so that they could give back to the community.
“Everything, once we pay for supplies and pay the employees, will go back into our community,” said Matt Leonard, one of the pastors of Journey Church. “We want to do things like feed children and support the needs of this community.”
Feeding Those in Need in the Local Community
Journey Church is committed to serving their local community, and plans to use proceeds from Go Make Coffee Co. to further their outreach efforts. Providing free meals from the church building has always been a part of their ministry, but in 2022, they officially opened the Loaves & Fish food truck, with the goal of bringing food into neighborhoods and communities. “There are hungry people who can’t get to where we are, so we’re going to take the food to them,” said Leonard.
Also, Journey Church provides food and supplies to students within the Davidson County School system. They do this by providing a free breakfast to the community the first Sunday of every month. Additionally, they prepare and provide around 2,000 free meals to people in need every Thanksgiving.
Coffee That Makes a Difference
With the desire for Go Make Coffee Co. to be successful for the sake of giving back, Journey Church enlisted a coffee consultant to help them navigate opening and operating an effective coffee shop. They hired and trained cashiers and baristas, and remodeled the interior spaces. Go Make Coffee Co. is using FosterHobbs Coffee of High Point to roast their shop’s coffee beans, and is using Chad’s Chai of Winston-Salem for their tea.
Go Make Coffee Co. is using a unique Japanese method to make a highly concentrated espresso cold brew using a Yama Cold Brew Tower. Currently, their menu of hot and iced beverages includes drip coffee, lattes, espressos, Americanos, pour-overs, teas (including London Fogs and Chai Tea Lattes,) smoothies, a variety of pastries, as well as seasonal and specialty drinks. Go Make Coffee Co. plans to expand its food and drink menu in the future. They are grateful to be receiving positive feedback from their customers. Patrons have commented on the great taste and flavor of their drinks, the welcoming environment, and the friendly baristas.
More About Go Make Coffee Co.
The coffee shop offers call-ahead curbside pick-up ordering, has an amazing patio space available for outdoor seating, and desires to foster a sense of community to all who visit. They hope to plan future activities to bring people together, like free food truck events at the coffee shop, as well as live acoustic music mornings.
“This coffee shop has created employment for our community and will help promote our mission to help our community,” said Journey Church Pastor Mark Rachels. For those who visit regularly, or for those who pick up a drink when passing through the area, take heart in knowing that your purchase will make a direct impact to those in need.
Go Make Coffee Co. is located at 6282 Old US Hwy 52 in the Welcome/Lexington area. They are open from 6:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. Follow them on Facebook and Instagram at @gomakecoffeeco.
