The Basics Guilford

basicsWhile it may be hard to believe, 80% of brain growth happens during the first three years of a child’s life. To make the most of these early years and help give each child a great start, scientists at Harvard University developed The Basics. These are five fun, free, simple yet powerful ways to turn everyday interactions into learning opportunities. These focus especially on infants and toddlers. The Basics are:

  1. Maximize Love, Manage Stress
  2. Talk, Sing and Point
  3. Count, Group and Compare
  4. Explore Through Movement and Play
  5. Read and Discuss Stories

The Basics Guilford is part of an international network of communities. They strive to help all children turn five ready to thrive in school and in life. Partners in Hope Annual Event

Partners in Hope EventWhile our community navigates the continued and ongoing impacts of COVID-19 we know one thing is for certain, we are together. In fact, we are together for good. Therefore, Catholic Charities is excited to announce that the Partners in Hope event will be held on March 10, 2022 beginning at 5:30pm. They will be hosting the event both in person at the Benton Convention Center as well as the option to join via livestream. It is crucial now more than ever before that the community continues to come together – for good. NGFS Virtual Coffee & Conversation

NGFS EventJoin Head of School Kim Freedman and Head of Lower School Carolyn Howes on Wednesday, February 9, at 12:15 p.m. as they share what makes a New Garden Friends School education unique. This session is intended for prospective Preschool, Pre-K, and TK parents/guardians. In addition, attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions during this event. Registration is required.

New Garden Friends School believes school should be a place where children feel safe and nurtured. Therefore, in the Preschool program, school days are designed to encourage children to explore their surroundings both inside and outside the classroom. The Pre-K curriculum provides engaging play-based instruction and consistent opportunities for meaningful learning. Serving as a bridge to Kindergarten, the Transitional Kindergarten program provides the “gift of time” for younger students to experience a rich, early educational foundation.

In addition, you can learn more about the NGFS Preschool program hereVisit NGFS.org to register!
