Back to school, back to (hopefully) cooler weather, and back to the grind! For me, I love the freedom of summer, but I always love getting back on a schedule! I also love all of the events that pop up in the fall season. We’ve got a great announcement from the Children’s Museum of Winston-Salem in today’s Sunday Spotlight, as well as a fun events at SciWorks and the Greensboro Ice House. Sensory Friendly Programming at the Children’s Museum of Winston-Salem

CMWSGIFTS animal_049New this fall, the Children’s Museum of Winston-Salem is offering monthly sensory friendly programming, developed with the guidance of ABC of NC. Children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and sensory processing differences can have a fun, enjoyable, and interactive learning experience in a comfortable and accepting environment! Learning can be verbal or non-verbal; hands-on or hands-off; fast or slow; social or solitary; loud or quiet; directed or inquiry-based. Visit the Museum website to download a social narrative and visual schedule that is written from a child’s perspective.

  • Sensory Friendly Mondays. Offered once a month, September through May, on Members-only Mondays (9 a.m. – 12 p.m.) when Museum attendance is light. If you are not a member, admission is required. The first two Sensory Friendly Mondays are scheduled for September 19 and October 17.

Sensory Friendly Night: Halloween Adventure is October 28 from 5-7:30 p.m. Trick-or-treat for candy and novelty toys while you explore! Admission is $3/person. Modifications for sensory friendly programming include choice boards and a designated quiet room.

Bats, Bees, & Butterflies: It’s Pollinator Day at SciWorks!

SciWorks on Saturday, September 24, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and learn more about and celebrate the work of these fascinating and vitally important animals and insects! There will be activities for all ages, including crafts and face-painting for the younger guests, and the opportunity to learn about butterfly gardening, beekeeping, bat research, and more with guest speakers, demos, and a vivarium with live butterflies.

Salem Law’s Estate Planning Workshop for Young Families!

Salem Law YF lrgSalem Law invites you to this FREE informative workshop on Tuesday, September 13th from 12PM to 1PM.  The workshop will cover issues unique to estate planning in the modern world for families with minor children. Most young families have heard they need a will and life insurance when they have a child, but are not familiar with the actual lengthy process for the guardian to get custody. Learn about the dangers of not having legal documents in place as well as the different options available! The workshop is at the First Presbyterian Church entrance at 301 N Marshall Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27101.
