Children’s Museum of Winston-Salem Turns 10!

To celebrate its 10th Birthday, and commemorate A Decade of Play, the Children’s Museum of Winston-Salem, will hold a Birthday party on Thursday, November 20th by being open for 10 hours (9am-7pm) FREE of charge to the public and with special programming. Krispy Kreme will be providing donuts and coffee all day. Since opening in 2004, the Museum has welcomed more than 800,000 visitors through its doors, staying true to its mission to create a compelling destination for the community to play and learn by experiencing literature, storytelling and the arts.  Whether guests are climbing the 30 ft. beanstalk, reliving fairy tales in the Enchanted Forest, or shopping and making healthy meals in Food Lion the museum lives up to its vision of “nurturing children’s imaginations, creativity, and love of reading” by providing access to all children in the community.

The 6th Annual Matthew Gfeller Memorial 5K Doughnut Run

On August 22, 2008 Reynolds High School student, Matthew Gfeller, suffered a severe helmet to helmet collision during his first varsity football game. Tragically, the accident caused a fatal traumatic brain injury and Matthew passed away two days later. A doughnut run event was created to remember Matt, to raise money for traumatic brain injury research and to bring the community together. The 6th Annual Matthew Gfeller Memorial 5K Doughnut Run takes place on Saturday, Nov. 15th at RJR High School. Proceeds benefit The Childress Institute for Pediatric Trauma in Winston-Salem and the Matthew Gfeller Sports-Related Traumatic Brain Injury Research Center at UNC-CH.  New this year:  Bib Tag Timing system including a disposable timing chip attached to the bib number which automatically records each runner’s time. All participants receive a long-sleeve dry fit t-shirt. Eating doughnuts is optional!  For registration or more information, go to jonesracingcompany.com/matt-gfeller-memorial-run/ or through the website.
