Family Fun Over Spring Break

Local Family Fun Spring Break Ideas

A majority of our readers who have children in public and private schools are gearing up for Spring Break! Let’s hope for gorgeous sunshine to wake us up each morning! I hope many of you are using this break to take vacations & spend time with family. Don’t forget about our Beach Directory and Day Trip Category if you are looking for a last minute escape! For those of you staying put, or those of you whose children may be with a nanny or sitter this week, I have come up with some local family fun spring break ideas! Many of these can also be terrific ideas for you to enjoy with out-of-town relatives and friends.

Local Spring Break Ideas

Easter Egg Hunts

There are a bunch of these going on this weekend! You can see details on our Events Calendar here. (Event link is the teal tab at the top of our website.)

Venture to the Library

Not only can you do the obvious and stock up on some reading materials for the whole family, but most area libraries have extra events added to their calendars this week in order to accommodate for Spring Break. You will find some activities on our TMoM events calendar. You can also visit each county’s website by clicking below to see a full calendar of events for the branch that is closest to you.
Alamance County
Davidson County
Davie County
Forsyth County
Greensboro/Guilford
Northwestern (Stokes, Alleghany, Surry and Yadkin)

See the Animals

Kids of all ages love to see animals! Our area has a great mix of zoos where you can view the animals from afar, as well as unique habitats where you can get up close and personal with animals. Check these places out!
All-a-Flutter Butterfly Farm
Dan Nicholas Park
Greensboro Science Center
Homeland Creamery
Lazy 5 Ranch
North Carolina  Zoo
Sciworks

Get Cooking

Kids love to cook and bake. We are all usually in a hurry to get meals on the table, but since you may have some extra time on your hands this week, let the kids dive in and help! I thought this website had some really cute ideas including Jelly Bean Easter Bark! Spoonful.com also had some great ideas for coking with kids. Pinterest always has unique baking/cooking ideas as well. If you want to make delicious meals for the whole family, visit our Recipe section with Tasty Table blogs. And if all else fails, there are always Rice Krispie Treats!

Be Adventurous!

Everyone’s idea of adventure is a little different. Hiking at Hanging Rock or Pilot Mountain might be enough excitement for some of you. Others may enjoy some indoor fun like bowling or rollerskating. Still others of you may enjoy things like zip-lining, go cart racing, trampoline park jumping, whitewater rafting, and laser tag all within a quick trip! Here are a few of my favorite places to find these adventures!
US National Whitewater Center
Airbound Trampoline Park
Kersey Valley
Celebration Station
Laser X of Archdale
SkateLand USA
Spare Time
AMF Bowling Greensboro & Winston

Visit a Museum

We’ve got hands-on museums, kids museums, history museums, you name it! These are a great idea especially if you have friends visiting from out of town. They will be amazed at what our Triad area has to offer.  Save Reynolda House for a day with good weather – the gardens are absolutely beautiful! Many of these will also have Easter activities this weekend.
Children’s Museum of Winston-Salem
Greensboro Children’s Museum
High Point Museum
Museum of Anthropology
Old Salem Museum and Gardens
Reynolda House Museum of American Art

Get Artsy

Pull out the glitter and glue! You’ve got the time, and fingers crossed that the weather will be nice and you can do this outside! Let the kids help you paint that old coffee table for their playroom! Decorate some frames with buttons and pipe cleaners! Check out our Crafts section and find some unique crafts for every age. Of course you can visit Pinterest for a plethora of craft ideas as well. If you want to take the art out of the house, you will love Wine & Design, Merlot & Van Gogh, An Originals By You, Little Blank Canvas or Parties 2 Dye 4! All fabulous fun even for teens and tweens!

No Phone Zone

Just CHILL OUT! Take a blanket into the backyard, sit in the sun and talk to your kids. Cuddle on the couch while looking at old photo albums. Sit around the table together and tell stories about when your kids were babies. Use this time to connect with your children and put everything else aside. Declare the space a NO PHONE ZONE for everyone (yes that means you, too, mom!) and enjoy each other.

No one is allowed to say they were bored over Spring Break! Enjoy yourselves and please share more ideas by commenting below!
