Did you know there is a grandparent’s day? It is always the first Sunday after Labor Day, which this year falls on September 10. Grandparents play such a special role in our children’s lives so it’s important to celebrate them! This is a great opportunity to do so.

How do you celebrate them though? If your kid’s grandparents are like mine, then they really don’t ever ask for or want much – in the way of gifts. So, I’ve put together a list of hopefully meaningful gift ideas that your child’s grandparents might like. Also, hopefully posting this in advance enough for you to get those gifts together! Let us know in the comments your favorite gift ideas for grandparents.

Homemade Cards & Gifts

You know how you adore and cherish those homemade cards and gifts from your child? Guess what? Your parents – aka your child’s grandparents – love those too!

Outside of making cards, a few homemade gift ideas are:

  • Signs or pictures with hand or footprints
  • Custom craft honoring the grandparent (think Best Grandma plaque, etc.)
  • Favorite or fun food (my daughter and I once made these ‘apples’ out of donut holes for her grandfather and it was a big hit since he loves Dunkin’ Donuts!)

Photo Gifts

Thanks to sites like Shutterfly you can put your child/children’s photo on just about anything. A few fun ideas for grandparents of photo gifts include:

  • Playing cards
  • Pillows
  • Blankets or quilts
  • Magnets
  • Coffee mugs
  • Puzzles
  • Tote bags
  • Christmas ornaments

These are only a few suggestions. Literally the sky is the limit when it comes to photo gifts now!

A Day of Fun

Plan a fun day or outing where you, the kids, and grandparents can all enjoy your time together. It could be something simple or a full-on day trip. Here are a few suggestions:

  • Visit a park
  • Enjoy a picnic
  • Take a day trip
  • Cook a special meal for them (include the grandkids on the planning & cooking)

No matter what you decide to do for the grandparents, they will love it as it comes from some of their favorite people – a.k.a. their grandbabies!
