Greensboro Ballet’s sparkling production of The Nutcracker will once again come to life on the stage of the historic & beautiful Carolina Theatre. Before it’s Dec. 10 & 11 performances, their beloved Tea with Clara events will be held upstairs in Renaissance Room of the Carolina Theatre. Put on your favorite holiday attire for a magical afternoon with loved ones and/or friends.

All Greensboro Ballet’s The Nutcracker dates for the 2022 season include:

~ December 10, 11 & 18 at 3:00pm

~ December 16 & 17 at 7:00pm

Tea with Clara events will be:

~ December 10 & 11 at 1:45pm

This year, under the direction of Greensboro Ballet’s new Artistic Director, Christine Cervino Grider, there will be a few changes to the traditional Nutcracker.  In an effort to be more culturally sensitive, the dances in the second act will no longer be characters from different countries. The Act 2 Land of the Dolls will include beautiful and fun dolls and stuffed animals. For example, instead of Russian dancers, a Matryoshka (aka Nesting Dolls) will perform to that classic, well-known part of Tchaikovsky’s score!

The Nutcracker tells the story of young Clara as she and her family celebrate the season with a lively Christmas party.  At the party, Clara’s Uncle Drosselmeyer gives her a magnificent Nutcracker which becomes the centerpiece of her magical dreams.

Guests at the Tea with Clara events will enjoy delicious tea and treats, create a craft, learn Clara’s lullaby dance, take home fun goody bags, and get to meet Clara and her friends from the ballet story.

Nutcracker Tickets will run from $20-$45 with special discounts for children, students, seniors, & the military.  Tea with Clara tickets will be $30/person.  (Prices do not include Theatre restoration fees, taxes, or other convenience fees).
