Mixxer Community Makerspace
June – August 2022
Exciting summer learning for students in grades 6 through 12 in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math at Mixxer Community Makerspace. STEAM Experiences run June to August over summer break for WSFC Schools.
STEAM Experiences at Mixxer are designed to challenge students in fun and interesting ways. Mixxer has 16 camps to choose from this summer in a wide variety of subjects.
They have 2 Rocketry camps, the first a fun introduction and the second students design their own rocket using beginner level online software.
Mixxer offers Fashion Design two times this year due to the popularity of the program. Students will design and make an outfit and meet local fashion designers. These tend to sell out early. Hope you can get your student enrolled for a great summer learning experience.
Mixxer STEAM Experiences offer lots of computer coding and electronics courses this year. Computer Programming in Python, and Computer Coding with Scratch, two different ways of creating software to work for you. Introduction to Electronics teaches students to assemble electronics and program to make it work.
Introduction to Video Game Design will open new worlds for your child, as will Video Production and Music Production camps. Intro to Graphic Design will teach students to use freeware to create fantastic graphics and give them new tools for expressing themselves.
Mixxer is offering students ways to use traditional technologies for making artistic things they can keep forever in Print Making, Wood Working, and Metal Working. These courses are great for students that enjoy working with their hands.
In addition, all STEAM Experiences are taught by experienced, certified teachers. Each session includes all of the supplies each student will need to be successful, and lunch every day.
Mixxer raises money throughout the year in the hope of reducing the cost for each student. They also seek out corporate and individual support to offer tuition assistance for families living in challenging conditions in our community. Mixxer Community Makerspace also has a mission to provide equitable access to Tech, Tools, and Community. Therefore, the STEAM Experiences program is their way of making all of that more accessible to youth in our community.
You can stop by Mixxer Community Makerspace between noon and 8pm Tuesday through Saturday to see the place for yourself. It is located at 1375 North Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in Winston-Salem. Most of the summer learning programs happen in the morning so that students can learn without distraction by all the cool things that people make there. You can join Mixxer to Make Stuff & Learn Stuff by becoming a member or sign up for one of their Maker Experiences and enjoy making something yourself.
After visiting, you may decide that you want to join their community as well as enroll your kids. They have family memberships so that your entire family can enjoy your time together while you Make Stuff & Learn Stuff at Mixxer.
