As a photographer and a mom, I know it’s stressful to get pictures taken. You pay good money for the session, stress over what to wear, how to get your kids to nap before the session, and then how to keep them on their best behavior for the entire photo session – whether it’s 10 minutes or 180 minutes! And yet, you know how it always goes…at the last minute, NO ONE NAPS, they spill milk on their outfit, fall down and get a black eye!

Trust me, I get it. As a mother to a 6 and 8-year-old, I get it because I have been there! I stress over my kids and how they will act all of the time. I am used to it daily. This has taught me, as a photographer, to be patient at sessions, and it really helps if you (the parent) are patient too.

KBPS2016024No one really loves to take pictures (well…except 6, 7, and 8 year old little girls!). I rarely have a session end where I feel I didn’t get a shot that works or one that I love. I am not saying that it always goes perfect and that you may not have to have a little talk. I’m just saying to be calm and know that every session pretty much goes the same way and no kid sits and smiles perfectly the entire session!

Believe it or not, the candid true-to-life moments are the ones that allow me to capture the best photos for you to cherish for years to come.

Now let me tell you a little bit about myself…I am a wife, mother, daughter and a sister. My passion for photography came after I had my son, Crawford, and I turned into a “mamarazzi”! I stay at home with my son and daughter, Caroline, who both keep me busy when I’m not working as a photographer. In addition to my family and my photography businesses, I love shopping, sweets, Starbucks, warm weather, more sweets, reality TV (I can’t help it!), pedicures, girl time and sweet tea!

NelsonNewborn003It has been 7 years since I started my photography business, and I love every minute. I call myself a Natural Light Photographer and my portfolio includes maternity, newborns, babies, children, couples, senior students, and family sessions. I also offer special birthday and Smash Cake sessions, fine art school portraits (a.k.a simple classic school pictures), as well photography workshops and packages for holidays, anniversaries, family trips (I can travel to your destination), or whatever occasion is important to you!

I’m proud to say I earned “Favorite Local Mompreneur” in TMoM’s 2016 Choice Awards contest, and “Favorite Photographer” in 2015 and in 2014!

studioAnother thing I’m excited about…just a few months ago I opened my first studio in downtown High Point at Millis Square (1109 N. Main Street, High Point). This building has so much character; it is perfect for natural light indoor pictures, especially for newborn and birthday sessions. I have plans to offer a monthly mini session and several photography workshops throughout the year.

Says Katie with TMoM: “I cannot say enough great things about working with Emily! Not only did she make us laugh and loosen up, but she was able to find unique locations with the best light. All the elements came together to create one of the best photo shoots we ever had. Despite the busy holiday season, Emily was extremely attentive with quick turnarounds on my Christmas cards and photo orders. I originally called Emily because of all the wonderful comments other TMoM readers have shared about Emily, and I am so glad I did!”
