As a Mom, we all get a little Google-obsessed when it comes to our child’s health. I was no exception when my youngest daughter was diagnosed with Type 1 (Juvenile) Diabetes just this April. At the young age of six, my “Extra Sweet” girl as I call her was sentenced to a life of daily pricks and insulin shots. While I call her Extra Sweet, she did not contract this disease from eating too much sugar. Her body no longer produces insulin like yours and I do. But, we’ll save the medical lesson on the difference in Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes for another blog entry.

I’m here to tell you about an “Extra Sweet” deal, available just in time for holiday giving. My Googling often lands me on the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) website, looking for some hope for a cure for diabetes. Komar, the largest sleepwear and intimate apparel manufacturer in the United States, created PJs for the Cure to benefit JDRF. The PJs are adorable – there are designs for girls, boys and women.

This program is unique in that Komar is donating 100% of every sale to JDRF to fund further research for a cure for this chronic disease that predominately strikes in childhood. The goal is to raise $1 million for JDRF by selling comfy cotton pajamas. Now that’s something to feel all warm and snuggly about! Please visit www.pjsforthecure.org and give someone on your list the gift of Extra Sweet Dreams – and hope for a cure for my Extra Sweet girl!

Earlier this year – just a few months after relocating to Winston-Salem with her husband, Warren’s, job – her youngest was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. She quickly learned the value of living in a city with a top-notch children’s hospital and amazingly supportive residents. When not caring for her daughters and 13-year-old golden retriever, Ruby, you can find her at her Macintosh designing brochures, magazines, ads and whatnot for her clients.
