When my family started considering schools for our son and daughter, we put all the options on the kitchen table including charter schools, the downtown school, private schools and, of course, our neighborhood public school. I have to say, we think that we were fortunate to have some outstanding options. But when we drilled down a little further, one school clearly stood out from a pack of strong contenders – Forsyth Country Day School.

Forsyth Country Day School’s Lower School teaches students in junior pre-kindergarten through fourth grade through hands-on learning and has caring, engaging teachers. In addition to a curriculum that cultivates avid readers, budding mathematicians, thoughtful historians, and innovative scientists, teachers nurture students’ creative potential through weekly special-area classes in visual arts and music and help prepare young people for global leadership with foreign language, computers and the Fury Citizens program, which promotes kindness and caring for our entire community.

We also like the fact that Forsyth Country Day School students uphold a code of honor and ethics, and the school has a zero tolerance for drugs. Weekly physical education and active play time on one of four Lower School playgrounds, on the activity fields, on the nature trail, or in the school’s flower, butterfly or vegetable gardens promote both physical health and an appreciation for nature.

The best thing about Forsyth Country Day School, however, is the small class size that’s at the core of the school’s curriculum.

Sure, there’s a cost to going to Forsyth Country Day School. We cut back some here and there to manage the expense, and I know several families who have received scholarship funding. Here’s how my family looks at it: an education at Forsyth Country Day School is an investment. When your child gets the best education available in a safe, warm environment that has an incredible record of academic success and acceptance into the best colleges in America, you can’t go wrong.
