It’s hard to believe that fall is upon us! Although for those of us here in NC, we know those high temps are sticking around at least through mid-October.  It is officially the time of the year where you wear a sweater in the morning, regret it by noon, and are thankful for it in the evening.

Today, I wanted to share a few outfits to give ideas on how to transition your summer style into fall.

Dresses are a big part of my summer wardrobe.  They are so easy to throw on and head out the door! I like to pair some of my favorite summer dresses with, in this case, a faux leather jacket and booties to get even more wear out of the dress as we transition into fall.  A denim jacket is also an easy and fashionable piece to add to your favorite summer dress, skirt, or romper.

Nothing beats a white tank and your favorite pair of shorts for the summer, but it might not be the warmest look to take you to fall. Layers are perfect for the cool mornings that turn into hot days, that turn back to cool evenings. I chose a cardigan as the perfect piece to complete this outfit.  The neutral colors in this look also work well for both summer and fall.  I added a pair of booties that complement the color of my cardigan to complete this transitional look.  You can also throw on your favorite jeans to dress up this look for a casual evening out.

For this next look, I chose a lightweight sweater to pair with shorts. That seems like an oxymoron – shorts with a sweater – but it’s something I swear by!  I enjoy getting more wear out of my favorite pair of shorts when I pair them with a lightweight sweater.  Add a pair of booties and you’re ready to go!  Like the previous outfit, this sweater also works well with a pair of jeans and booties.

I chose to wear neutral jewelry for these looks.  And yes, I think tortoise shell definitely counts as a neutral as we transition to fall – it goes with just about everything! Neutral wooden bracelets with a pop of gold help top off the look and can work for any time of the year.

One thing you might have noticed is that all looks include booties, which may be my FAVORITE thing about fall! While the temps are still warm, a great pair of booties can help you complete your look. A pair of open toe booties also lets you show off that summer pedicure for as long as you can!

A few of my favorite stores to shop locally for fall clothing are Boho Blu (in Burlington, Greensboro, High Point and Winston-Salem), Mast General Store (in Winston-Salem…they have the cutest sweaters) and Monkees (in Winston-Salem or High Point). Online, I can always count on finding something I love at Pink Lily and Red Dress Boutique.
