Westchester Country Day School, a college preparatory school located in High Point, has announced that it is exploring a pre-kindergarten program to add to its already outstanding K-12 curriculum.

“We are excited to expand our programming to include four-year-olds,” said Head of School Cobb Atkinson. “This is a natural extension of our Lower School curriculum and will provide our youngest students with a wonderful beginning to their 14-year Westchester journey.”

The school hopes to launch the Pre-K for the 2012-2013 academic year and confirmation of the program will be announced in February. The main Pre-K program will run from 8:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, with the option to stay from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. Before-school and after-school care are also available, for the potential of a full-day program from 7:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. if needed.

The curriculum will be designed to help each student meet his or her fullest potential. Lessons will include the formation of uppercase letters, phonetic awareness, reading, math with manipulatives, science, units of inquiry, centers, as well as enrichment classes such as library, art, music, and Spanish.

The inaugural class will be limited to 18 children with a teacher and an assistant. Lunch is included and will be served in the school’s cafeteria each day.

The 10-month price structure for the new program will be:

Before-School Care
7 a.m. – 8 a.m. – $6/hour

Pre-K Program
8 a.m. – 1 p.m. – $475/month
8 a.m. – 3 p.m. – $600/month

After-School Care

**Book and field trip fees may apply as well.
