The running joke among my mom friends and I is the following:
1. I am headed to Target
2. I ran into you at Target
3. I just got back from Target

So many people wonder ‘What’s going with Target? Did they brainwash Moms turning them into Target addicts? Is the Target symbol imprinted on them like a homing beacon?’

Well…here’s my perspective:

In my immediate area we have a Target, a Walmart, and a Kohls all within a mile if each other. There are two different malls within a 20 minute drive to either side of my town. Yet, why do we moms Stay-cation/escape always to Target?

For me, the answers is that Target provides me with all of my favorite parts of a mall without the hassle.

I am actually sitting in the Target cafe area typing this right now.

On days when daughter is in school and my son is in preschool, I volunteer, work around the house, or run errands. When I run errands by myself, I love it if I have the slightest excuse to go to Target.

If I’m by myself I walk around the clothing section admiring the new stock and love how the aisles are breathable….yes, I said breathable…I can easily see things from the main aisle and can maneuver my cart for further exploration if I want. Odds are it’s my chance to actually look at the clothes up close as I had probably walked by them with my kids, admired them, but just hadn’t had the time. For clothes, they really cover everything….I know they are suppose to, but they actually cater to people who are bargain hunters, people who want simple fun clothes, AND more boutique type clothes.

I love how it is a full encompassing store and has bargains in every section. Who doesn’t over the notion of getting a deal:-)

In one trip I can daydream of fashion, pick up a present for my daughters upcoming birthday, look at Easter clearance for next year, and grab the loaf of bread that we needed.

I also can treat myself to a coffee house experience by grabbing a Starbucks drink. I just don’t have the patience to go to a coffee shop without another reason. Also, if my kids are with me, it would mean unloading them and loading them. Not always a fun task if you are doing it for just a five minute stop. My kids do enjoy going to coffee houses, however, it’s more fun if it’s under a relaxed tone and nothing pressing going on, which can sometimes be a rare occasion.

I feel like as a mom, I am constantly multitasking, so the fact that I can get a coffee house drink AND SHOP is a SUPER BONUS to me:-) Even when I was working, I felt this way. The most optimal use of my time:-) I can be in and out of that store in 10 minutes or take my time strolling and spend two hours there.

Even WITH my children, we all love going to Target. I don’t feel overwhelmed by the store and I think the fact that it is spacious and spread out helps. We also love the $1-$3 dollar section. Right as you walk in there is the $1-$3 section and it actually has some nice things in it:-). We find fun things to create crafts and decorate for the seasons:-)

I love that I can get needed purchases done there as well day dreaming. It’s all there in one store. For me at least, the jokes will continue. Maybe someday I’ll venture back to a mall, but for now and the near future, Target will do for me and I’m happy with that:-).
