Discovering Discovery Concerts

“When my son was around 5 years old, we took him to his first Winston-Salem Symphony Discovery Concert for Kids. He loved it, and we have been regulars ever since. He’s now 10 and in the 4th grade, and these concerts are still at the top of our list of family activities. In fact, about a year after we started attending, he began playing the violin himself. A nod to the influence that exposure to music can have on even the youngest of children. These concerts do everything right. The beauty is that they are about more than just the music. They offer great hands-on activities before the performance. They mix in humor and games and other great visuals. They are the perfect length at about an hour each. They incorporate other fine arts like the Festival Ballet. They engage children and adults alike, and they are just another thing that our rich city has to offer for the whole family.”

Gingerbread House Competition

The Gingerbread House Competition is sponsored by Panera Bread to raise money for Earlier.org, a charity striving to find an earlier breast cancer test. Teams of up to 6 can compete to build the winning house, or just come to watch and have fun. Panera Bread is providing all building supplies, breakfast, and lunch!
