For a variety of reasons, we might find ourselves unable to travel or even leave home for a significant amount of time to celebrate Valentine’s Day. We might even make plans only to discover that one of our littles is not feeling well and so plans must change. Having to stay home does not have to be glum if we have creative ideas ready. These Valentine’s Day ideas for your children or your significant other are sure to be sweet and loving!

Celebrating with Children

Children absolutely love the opportunity to spend time with parents or caregivers, so they are highly likely to appreciate any time delegated for a Valentine’s celebration. They also love imagination and pretend play. A successful Valentine celebration will include whimsical play and ambience.

Be sure to make sure everyone looks the part by wearing festive valentine gear. Pick the room or rooms in the house you will use based on your theme and make sure to incorporate plenty of color. For instance, if you will have a valentine bake off- make sure to put Valentine colors in your kitchen, buy a few valentine-colored bake items (the Dollar Store is a great option for these purchases) and supply of icings and cupcake mixes and toppings to choose from.

Consider utilizing the celebration to teach your child to think of others during the Valentine season. For example, they might create beautiful cupcakes for others who might need a sentiment of love such as those in homes for the elderly. If you are health conscious, you can still have a bake-off using fruit by making creative Valentine fruit baskets or by decorating cards. This Valentine’s Day can allow you and your child to spend quality time together while also sharing and learning about the sentiment of thinking of others.

Celebrating with a Sweetie

Our homes can be romantic places to celebrate Valentines Day with just a little preparation. Again, focusing on one to two rooms for your romantic day will make it easy to create the ambience any sweetie can appreciate. A simple throw with the celebratory colors of Valentine’s Day can change any bedroom or dining room into a romantic getaway. Be sure to use a plethora of flowers and scented candles for a sophisticated romantic look.

Even if you plan to order food in lieu of cooking, presentation is the key to a successful romantic look. You do not have to feel compelled to buy new dishes. Clean crisp cloth napkins and white or solid color tableware will create a romantic tablescape.

Celebrating at home can be as sweet and romantic as going out when we have the right trimmings and sentiment. Consider adding some of the ideas below to your valentines at home.

  1. Write a poem for your sweetie or even for your youngster.
  2. Have a Valentine photoshoot.
  3. Get a massage.
  4. Serve breakfast in bed (even to the children).
  5. Serve their favorite foods.
  6. Watch romantic movies.
  7. Have an at-home spa day.
  8. Have an indoor or outdoor Valentine glamping day.

Valentine’s Day can be as expensive or thrifty as you prefer but your creativity and ability to demonstrate authentic care and love is what will make the day enjoyable and memorable. No matter how much you spend, be sweet to your sweetie!
