S.O.A.R Tutoring & Advocacy offers tutorial services and resources for parents and children by providing guidance and current innovative instructional practices.  S.O.A.R. pairs your child with a highly qualified instructor and monitors progress to meet your child’s academic and functional needs. Our tutors are experienced, professional educators who have a passion for teaching and helping students succeed.

S.O.A.R. goals are to:

  • Serve all learners including those with special needs.
  • Identify the strengths and needs of your child.
  • Target and determine specific gaps in learning and foundational skills.
  • Teach strategies that can be utilized when completing academic and functional activities.
  • Instruct based upon your child’s learning style and pace of learning to achieve true academic and functional potential.
  • Provide support for families to advocate for their child.

S.O.A.R. provides highly individualized one-on-one instruction.

S.O.A.R. Tutoring matches tutors and students to ensure optimal learning success.  Enthusiastic tutors create instruction that is correlated with NC state curriculum, Common Core and its underlying standards.   Each tutoring session is based upon the child’s individual needs and current goals.  The Orton-Gillingham approach to literacy for children with dyslexia is delivered by certified OG tutors.

Progress monitoring is key using the S.O.A.R. approach.

Progress is documented at the completion of each session and available for parents to review.  S.O.A.R. Tutoring & Advocacy welcomes the opportunity to work as a team with parents, teachers, & counselors to provide the most support possible.

Convenient Location.

The S.O.A.R. office is conveniently located in Winston-Salem.   Tutoring sessions take place at the S.O.A.R. office, in-home, at the library, as well as other after-school settings.

Appointment or Drop-in Hours.

Call to schedule tutoring sessions or take advantage of convenient Drop-in Hours at the S.O.A.R. office Monday through Thursday 3:00pm- 7:00pm during the school year.

Hosted Parent Empowerment Meetings.

Parent networking, advocacy, and moral support group for parents of children with special needs.  Guest speakers offer a host of strategies highlighting the latest research and tools to support our struggling students.


What S.O.A.R. offers:

Clients include students of all ages and abilities, Kindergarten through 12th grade with personal and private, individualized tutoring in all core subject areas. Instruction in study skills, functional skills and test preparation is also included in tutoring sessions.

While the S.O.A.R. office is  located in Winston-Salem, flexibility is offered in tutoring locations and hours.
