Orange, yellow, turquoise, pink. As I look around the park and morning drop off at school I know that warm weather has arrived! It’s time to pack away the sweaters (not that we really needed them this past winter) and bring out the sundresses, shorts and skirts. With tangerine tango being the official color of 2012, this vibrant hue brings with it promises of a colorful closet for the warmer months.

Solid pieces are a staple in any wardrobe, but strong prints will be making a statement this summer. Ikat, better known as Aztec print, has many variations, but its common theme is the Native American look with geometric shapes. This print is showing up on tops, dresses, and accessories.

Floral prints can be found in the form of the ditsy print which is the very feminine small flower. This summer you will also see floral prints making a very bold statement. This large print looks amazing  on a tunic top paired with capri length leggings and wedge shoes.

Polka dots have gotten a major face lift this season. This traditional print is a classic that you may already have in your closet. You will also find this cute dot showing up as a more abstract circular pattern.

Designers are playing with hemlines this season in the form of short in the front and long in the back, as well as pointed tips over the hips.  This is a very flattering look on all ages and sizes.  Asymmetrical is on trend for 2012.

The maxi dress has proven to have staying power and is back stronger than ever for 2012.  From bold prints to solids, there is a maxi dress to fit your unique style.

The dolman sleeve is one of my personal favorite trends.  The sleeve is created with a large armhole that tapers down.  This is another flattering look on many different body types.

The building blocks to every fashion forward closet lies in the basics. Proper fitting camisoles, leggings, bandeau tops and bras are essential.
