By Deane Belk of WeeRuns
Remember when Bill Clinton was sworn in as our 42nd President? Women were allowed to fly planes for the Air Force for the first time? Microsoft launched a new operating system called Windows? Our favorite Billboard music was sung by Whitney Houston, Billy Ray Cyrus and Pearl Jam? Beanie Babies were all the rage and Schlinder’s List was the must-see movie at the theater? Folks watched Murphy Brown on TV at home, which on average costs $113,000 and salaries on average were $31,000. And gas…was $1.13 a gallon! If you do, that was 1993…seems like a long time ago, and it seems like just yesterday. But it was 18 years ago…the year WeeRuns was launched! WeeRuns broke new ground in High Point when no one even knew what “consignment” meant!
WeeRuns has been making friends and serving families for a long time…and that translates into something very critical: trust and stability. But that’s not what sets WeeRuns apart from all the fundraising consignment sales that have come on the scene in the past few years. WeeRuns has its own personality and is a lot of fun too. Why?
MONEY: WeeRuns’ consignors can earn a considerable amount of money on their gently-used items…WeeRuns offers consignors 17 days of exposure for items: a lot of “sale time” in exchange for preparation efforts.
KID-FRIENDLY APPOINTMENTS: WeeRuns offers a children’s area with movies, snacks, and coloring books to entertain little ones during consignor appointments.
EASE: It’s easy to get involved! WeeRuns’ website and online scheduler make it simple to get information instantly and conveniently.
ASSISTANCE: WeeRuns has a tremendously helpful staff who is SERIOUS about selling consignments and caring volunteers who want to assist shoppers!
RECYCLE / REUSE: What better way to be green? Let other families benefit from items your family no longer needs…and get something in return!
UPSCALE SHOPPING ENVIRONMENT: Most recently WeeRuns has been able to host its sale events in exclusive showroom buildings open only to the trade during semi-annual furniture markets. In fact, our July sale is located in over 40,000 square feet of beautiful showroom space in downtown High Point!
FUN VOLUNTEER SHIFTS: Volunteering is a great chance to make new friends, try new things, and have an excuse to get out of the house for a “Mom’s Night Out!”
DEALS: Many items still have tags still attached!
FACEBOOK CONTESTS: Great gift certificates and fun contests for our friends and followers can be found on our Facebook page.
PRIVATE EVENTS: Six private sale events for WeeRuns consignors and volunteers.
TREASURES: WeeRuns is NOT just for bargain shoppers! You never know what you will find: boutique and designer clothing at pennies on the dollar! Great items for birthday and holiday gifts.
SHOPPING: Ten days of shopping time to meet needs of today’s busy families, when most other sales offer a single day or weekend.
But WeeRuns is not just fun…it also supports many worthy causes. WeeRuns has donated unsold items for almost two decades: from shoes going to Guatemala and the Ukraine to blankets and bottles being sent to western Indian reservations and clothing taken on youth mission trips to Jamaica. And WeeRuns’ Round-Up Campaign has raised awareness and funds, contributing almost $25,000 since 2005 to many and varied foundations and non-profits (details provided on the website).
But don’t just take our word for it! Come out and see what it’s all about! Join in the fun…shop with us this week, consign with us next season. Consider volunteering in the future. We help keep the cost down of bringing up your kids!
