By the TMoM Team

Let’s take a deep breath and ditch the overwhelm. New Year’s magic isn’t about superhuman feats, it’s about finding what sparks that inner fire and leaving behind the burnout.

History of New Year Resolutions

How New Year’s Resolutions Started: Believe it or not, “resolutions” have been around since 4,000 BC! Back then, Babylonians promised their gods to do better if they had a good harvest. Fast forward to the Romans, who made pledges to Janus, the god of beginnings, on January 1st. Now, our resolutions might not involve appeasing Gods, but the spirit remains: fresh starts and personal growth.

TMoM owner, Sarah Marchwiany, polled the TMOM team and asked what their goals are for the New Year. This is what they had to say:

What We’re Bringing into the New Year

  • Replacing hearty family suppers with lighter meals that are still full of flavor!
  • More Water. Let’s face it, mamas, we often run on fumes (and coffee). Remember, a hydrated mama is a happy, energized mama!
  • Work-life balance: Working on delegating tasks, setting boundaries, and saying no more often. A balanced mama is a present mama, ready to connect with her little ones.
  • More Time Outdoors. If you haven’t heard of 1000 hours outside you should follow along. It is a fun challenge to try and spend 1000 hours outdoors during the year.
  • Journaling! I would love to take notes of the funny stuff my kids say throughout the year and also find more prompts to answer questions for myself.
  • Supporting local businesses – shopping locally more, even when it takes a little more effort than clicking a quick button on Amazon.
  • Patience – remembering that kids are kids and trying to find patience during all the frustrations.
  • Spending more time with like-minded supportive friends & fostering those relationships.
  • Make ourselves a priority and find more time for exercise and self-care.

What We’re Leaving Out of the New Year

  • Too Much Screen Time.
  • Retail Therapy Detox: Remember that “treat yourself” moment that turned into a shopping spree? We’ve all been there. But this year, we’re getting intentional with our spending.
  • Clutter – We’re investing in experiences and making memories instead of mountains of stuff.
  • Things that don’t bring us joy.

The magic of the New Year is about small, intentional shifts that light up our days and nourish our souls. So, let’s focus on filling the year with joyful moments, meaningful connections, and a healthy dose of “me time.” Remember, a happy mama raises happy hearts, and that’s the best resolution of all.
