AFSP NC’s Triad Out of the Darkness Community Walk

Sign up today to make sure you receive important updates about the Walk from local organizers. The Out of the Darkness Community Walk is an opportunity to find a supportive community of people who get it, to know you’re not alone, and to make a difference together.

Walks are 1 to 3 miles and non-competitive, open to anyone who wants to show up for the cause, walk in memory of a loved one, or stand alongside others who understand. The specific route for the Triad Area Walk will be shared closer to Walk day.

Schedule for the Day

  • 8:30 AM — Veterans Suicide Remembrance Ceremony
  • 9:00 AM — Registration / Check-in
  • 10:00 AM — Opening Ceremony
  • 10:30 AM — Bead Ceremony
  • 11:00 AM — Walk
  • 12:00 PM — Closing Ceremony
  • 12:30-1:30 PM — Live music from the Penny Cady Band
  • 1:30 PM — Event wrap-up

What to Expect

The day’s program includes a Veterans Suicide Remembrance Ceremony, an opening ceremony, activities of hope and healing, resource tables from local organizations, and complimentary honor beads for every participant, a meaningful tradition that lets walkers show their personal connection to the cause.

Why It Matters

Every Out of the Darkness Walk supports the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s mission to save lives and bring hope to those affected by suicide, through research, education, advocacy, and support for those who have lost someone or are struggling themselves.
