What to do around Greensboro

When it comes to free outdoor fun, parks are a consistent hit with my family. This summer, we’re even planning a “playground hop” – think of it as a bar crawl but with significantly less alcohol and much more sunshine! Greensboro boasts many fantastic playgrounds, far too many to list individually here. While I’ll highlight some of our personal favorites, be sure to check out our comprehensive park guide for even more options!

Country Park

Country Park Greensboro, NC

Country Park offers something for everyone. The expansive green spaces are perfect for kite flying, bubble-chasing, or just enjoying the fresh air. The trails are great for easy hikes with little legs, and you might even spot some ducks on the lake! Speaking of the lake, during the warmer months you can rent paddleboats for a cruise on the water. These rentals are available in 30-minute increments, and believe me when I say that while it seems short, 30 minutes of non-stop paddling is more than enough. Once those leg muscles have had a moment to recover, take a leisurely trip up the hill to explore the solar system walk, and enjoy a classic carousel ride! Check out our Day Trip to Country Park blog for more info on all that is offered at Country Park.

Bur-Mil Park

Another great option is Bur-Mil Park, which offers a diverse range of activities from a large playground and scenic trails to a wildlife education center. The Frank Sharpe Jr. Wildlife Education Center is completely free to visit and is geared towards educating the public about wildlife and natural resources. It features live animal exhibits, and a children’s area that little ones will love exploring. In the retail section of the Center, you can find fishing passes for the ponds along with bait. No fishing gear? No problem! You can participate in the North Carolina Fishing Loan-A-Rod program (available to kids aged 15 and under). The park also features an accessible nature-themed playground, ensuring fun for children of all abilities, and pickleball, tennis courts, and a driving range for those looking for a bit more active recreation.

Barber Park

Barber Park, located on Greensboro’s east side, features a great playground with a designated Tot Spot for the littlest kiddos. Bigger kids and grown-ups will appreciate the 18-hole disc golf course. Seasonally, there is a large sprayground that is free for families, and the park often hosts free community events in the warmer months at the outdoor amphitheater. There’s plenty of space to ride bikes or scooters, and if you find yourself in need of a bike, stop by the Community Bike Shop located within the park to borrow one from their weekly bike library!

LeBauer Park

As a wonderful bonus, LeBauer Park often hosts free family-friendly programming, including yoga sessions, lively concerts, and engaging kids’ storytimes via the adjacent Central Library.
