On our next visit, I planned lunch with friends at Restaurant 101, located right at the corner of Main Street and Court Square. With both indoor and outdoor seating and a versatile menu, it’s perfect for families or friend gatherings. From burgers and wraps to pasta, seafood, and steaks, everything is delicious and reasonably priced.

O’Callahan’s Publick House

Just steps away is O’Callahan’s Publick House, an Irish pub known for live music and evening events.

Cognition Davie

For a fun and educational indoor activity, check out Cognition Davie, located at 119 N Salisbury St. This interactive children’s museum and makerspace is perfect for kids of all ages. It features hands-on exhibits focused on science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM). Kids can explore a pretend farm-to-table market, play with water and building stations, and engage in special programs and classes. Upstairs, the Makerspace offers workshops for teens and adults looking to learn new skills or create something unique. It’s a must-visit for families looking to combine fun with learning!

Hursey’s Sculpture Park

Just a short drive from downtown Mocksville, Hursey’s Sculpture Park at 399 Pine Ridge Rd offers a unique roadside attraction that’s both whimsical and awe-inspiring. Created by local chainsaw artist Jeff Hursey, the park features an array of large-scale wooden sculptures, including a giant swan, life-sized pirate ship complete with a picnic area inside, and the infamous Bigfoot statue with glowing red eyes that once sparked numerous 911 calls from startled drivers. Visitors are welcome to explore the park, take photos, and marvel at the creativity on display. It’s a delightful stop that adds a touch of artistic flair to your Mocksville adventure.

Rich Park

On a recent summer day, my kids and I made another ice cream stop at Scoops and then visited Rich Park (299 Cemetery St). This shaded park features two playgrounds, a nature trail through the woods, picnic shelters, and a relaxing vibe. It’s a fantastic alternative to the often-crowded Tanglewood Park.

Davie County Community Park

Another excellent spot for families is Davie County Community Park, located at 151 Southwood Drive. This expansive, modern park features a splash pad, outdoor fitness equipment, paved walking trails, athletic fields, and a large playground. It’s one of the most impressive parks in the region and perfect for spending an afternoon outdoors. With clean restrooms, picnic shelters, and plenty of open space, it’s ideal for family outings, birthday parties, or just letting the kids run off some energy.
