Park, Playgrounds, and Trails in High Point

One of the absolute gems of the city is the High Point City Lake Park. It is a fantastic spot for families seeking outdoor fun! The park features a beautiful lake to explore via pontoon boat tour, and the banks are perfect for picnics.  As well as offering a pontoon boat lake tour! There’s a carousel, putt-putt, walking trails, but perhaps the coolest feature is the miniature train that chugs its way around the park, and yes, you can take a ride on it! Let’s not forget the playgrounds. There are multiple areas designed for different age groups, ensuring that toddlers to tweens can swing, slide, and climb to their heart’s content. During the summer months, the lake also offers a splash pad with pools and water slides, which is a great way for the kiddos to cool off.

I mention City Lake first because it’s my family’s absolute favorite, but don’t sleep on the other awesome parks and playgrounds High Point has on offer! From the scenic trails at Oak Hollow Park to the colorful play equipment at Deep River Park, there’s no shortage of spots to let your kids run, jump, and play. Many of these parks also have picnic areas. After a snack break, continue your outdoor adventure by exploring the trails at the Piedmont Environmental Center. Not to “Mom” you, but keep an eye out for wildlife, and remember to bring your water bottles! Pack a picnic basket, find a shady spot, and make a day of it. It’s a peaceful yet active place that’s perfect for an afternoon of fun.

Speaking of children’s museums, if you’re looking for an indoor activity, The Nido & Mariana Qubein Children’s Museum of High Point should be at the top of your list. This hands-on museum is packed with interactive exhibits that encourage learning through play. I know I said it was indoors, but there’s actually also a large outdoor play area. This featuring giant chess, a huge sand pit, and even a carousel! Whether your child is interested in arts and crafts, the wonders of space exploration, or playing in a miniature town, there’s plenty to keep them entertained.
