Do you have an anniversary coming up? Do you and your significant other need to reconnect? Do you just need to escape for a while? North Carolina is not at a loss for amazing weekend retreats for couples. We’ve polled our friends and fans and come up with the list below. Each is special for different reasons, so choose one that speaks to you! We’ve also included a few of our favorites just across the border into Virginia. Enjoy!

The Triad & Triangle Areas

Grandover Resort
1000 Club Road
Greensboro, NC 27407
When a resort is in your own home town, you often may overlook it, but when you stay at Grandover, you truly feel like you are a world away from everyday stress and pressures! It’s the perfect spot if you or your partner love to golf, and their spa is top-notch. Of course you can choose to enjoy many restaurants in Greensboro, or stay at the resort and dine at one of their four restaurants. Use our favorite restaurants guide or local outings guide for ideas of places to visit while you enjoy your “weekend away.”

1900 Reynolda Road
Winston-Salem, NC 27106
Most residents of Winston-Salem have passed this gorgeous estate off Reynolda Road, but did you know that when you stay at Graylyn, part of the cost of your stay is invested into local schools and Wake Forest University scholarships? It’s the perfect idea for a night away and then you can spend time the next day enjoying the beautiful grounds and shops at Reynolda Gardens, Reynolda Village, and Reynolda House Museum of American Art.

Hotel Indigo
104 West 4th Street
Winston-Salem, NC 27101
If you want to escape without having to travel far, check out Hotel Indigo! It is in located in downtown Winston-Salem in the historic Pepper Building. We love the Art Deco feel of the hotel and even the lounge area makes you feel as if you are on vacation. There are 75 rooms available and they are pet friendly! The hotel is home to the Sir Winston Restaurant and Wine Loft. You can definitely find plenty to explore in the area of downtown Winston-Salem, and you can always hop over to Old Salem as well! Use our favorite restaurants guide or local outings guide for ideas of places to visit while in Winston.

Kimpton Cardinal Hotel
401 North Main Street
Winston-Salem, NC 27101
This is another local “escape” that can make you feel like you are a million miles away from home. The Kimpton Cardinal is located in downtown Winston-Salem’s historic R.J. Reynolds building, which was actually the inspiration for NYC’s Empire State Building! You can spend hours enjoying the atmosphere of the lobby and restaurant, The Katharine Brasserie and Bar. They have an amazing fitness center, and in-room massages are available. One of our favorite perks of this hotel is the recreation room, which includes a basketball court, bowling alley and a twisty slide that encourages adults to be a kid again!

O.Henry Hotel
624 Green Valley Road
Greensboro, NC 27408
We love the atmosphere of this hotel! We also love the fact that there is always some sort of live music, delicious food or fun event going on. You can often find amazing jazz artists playing in the hotel! Check their calendar here. Green Valley Grill is located within the hotel and is always nominated as a favorite in our TMoM Choice Awards. Amenities include a complimentary breakfast buffet and afternoon tea every day in the social lobby. Another big perk – Friendly Center is right across the street!

The Umstead Hotel and Spa
100 Woodland Pond Drive
Cary, NC  27513
When staying at the Umstead, you truly feel like you are in a hidden sanctuary! We recommend getting a room with a lake view and enjoying the view from your balcony each morning. Our favorite part of this hotel is the spa, which includes relaxation lounges, steam room, sauna, whirlpool, a current pool and meditation gardens. They have a wide assortment of spa services from which to choose. There is also a fabulous Fitness Center and a seasonal outdoor pool.

The NC Mountains

Beaufort House Inn
61 North Liberty Street
Asheville, NC 28801
Not everyone is a fan of Bed & Breakfasts, but if you’ve never stayed at one, the Beaufort House Inn is a great place to give it a try! The New York Times named this historic home one of the best five places to stay in Asheville. It is seated in the midst of beautiful gardens surrounded by water fountains and hammocks. It’s the perfect place to relax and unwind with a gorgeous view. It is only half a mile from downtown Asheville, so you will have plenty of outings to enjoy if you wish. The Biltmore is also just a couple miles away, which is always a great way to spend an afternoon with your loved one.

Grand Bohemian Hotel
11 Boston Way
Asheville, NC 28803
If you’re looking for a unique spot in Asheville, this is a great place to consider. The decor of the hotel is so unique – it feels like you’re stepping into a rustic but high-end luxury cabin. The rooms are cozy, the food is great, and there is also a spa and art gallery on site. You can’t beat the location either. If you plan to visit the Biltmore, this hotel is right around the corner and it’s also very close to downtown Asheville. A perfect choice for a couple’s get away weekend!

River House Country Inn
1896 Old Field Creek Road

Chetola Resort at Blowing Rock
500 Main Street
Blowing Rock, NC 28605
We love Blowing Rock for the atmosphere, charm, shopping, and food! Chetola Resort is right in the heart of it all. You can choose to stay in Chetola Lodge, a luxury condominium, or the private Bob Timberlake Inn. Timberlake’s Restaurant has an amazing menu where you can enjoy breakfast or dinner, and the Spa is top-notch. Check out their on-site recreational activities here. The Blue Ridge Parkway is close by, so don’t miss a hike to Hebron Rock Colony while you are in the area!

The Grove Park Inn
290 Macon Avenue
Asheville, NC 28804
As much as we love exploring Asheville, The Grove Park Inn is one of those getaways when you really don’t have to leave the grounds! Their spa services can definitely keep you relaxed all day, or you can always enjoy a round of golf if you desire. We also love the tennis courts, indoor and outdoor pools, as well as the sports complex. They have a fantastic array of restaurants and bars on the grounds, and the views while you dine are simply amazing!

Inn at Biltmore Estate
Asheville, NC 28803

Hotel Roanoke
110 Shenandoah Avenue

Their Spa & Adventure Center includes mineral foot soaks, massages and facials at the spa, and Food & Cultural Tours to explore the Roanoke Valley and Virginia’s Blue Ridge region. They will help you plan outings or activities including golfing, fishing, biking, hiking, kayaking, paddle boarding and other local attractions.

One of our favorite things about this inn is the breakfast menu! Save plenty of room for amazing food! For your accommodations, can choose from different categories of rooms and suites. (Some are great for families if you ever return with the kiddos!) On the grounds you can enjoy the therapeutic, salt-water heated pool year-round. There is an outdoor, heated multi-level Jacuzzi spa as well. Other fun ideas include tennis, biking, mini golf, shopping, golf outings, the spa, and the fitness center.

The Omni Homestead

Hot Springs, VA 24445
No matter what time of year you visit the Homestead, there is plenty to do to relax and rejuvenate as a couple. When visiting, we mostly stay on the grounds and enjoy one of their restaurants or bars. When the weather is nice, the decks are perfect to enjoy a meal outdoors. You can also spend an entire day enjoying the spa, which includes serenity gardens, tranquil relaxation rooms, massages & facials, hot springs, pools, and a fitness center. On top of all this, we have thoroughly enjoyed the experiences available such as zip-lining, skiing, golf, horseback riding, biking, mini golf, falconry, archery, tennis, hiking, canoeing, fishing, the game room, and tours.
