Are you looking for a quick day trip idea with your family? Why not give McLeansville a try?! There is a surprising amount of family-friendly activities in this area, and it is only a short drive from most places in the Triad. If you are looking for a “kids optional” event, scroll to the end. We have something fun for you, too.

Providence Farm

My son’s class recently took a field trip to Providence Farm. What a great place to visit! Not only was it educational (and a lot of poop talk!), but we also got to get up close and personal with a turkey, some pigs, and an adorable baby lamb. Joy, who runs Providence Farm, did a great job keeping our wandering Pre-K kids corralled (haha, get it?) and entertained at the same time. Providence Farm is currently doing events on Saturdays and a monthly storytime with special “guest” visitors. They can also arrange field trips for groups. Check out their Facebook page for updated events.

Kernodle’s Blueberry Farm

There is nothing much better than a warm, sweet, delicious, freshly-picked blueberry. Starting in early July, Kernodle’s Blueberry Farms will have blueberries available for picking! Stop by and check them out! They can also accommodate field trips and groups during the week by appointment. Make sure to check with their Facebook page to see when the blueberries will be ready.

May’s Strawberries and Produce

We have stopped at May’s Farms for strawberries before, and they were so delicious! Strawberries may be out of season now, but May’s Farm will offer squash, okra, tomatoes, and other vegetables for purchase throughout the summer. Their address is 6810 McLeansville Road, NC, or call them at (336)375-3613.

Keeley Park and Spray Ground

If you have not been to Keeley Park yet, you do not know what you are missing! This is such a great park not far from Greensboro. There is so much to do in this area: a stocked fishing pond, a disc golf course, mountain bike trails, and cornhole. The park also hosts a fantastic spray ground and a playground. Check out their website and make sure to keep up with all the happenings with Greensboro’s parks on their Facebook page. (You can find additional Triad spray grounds here!)

Kids Optional Farm Event

We all need a short get-away sometimes! On Saturday, June 12th, several local farms are putting together a “passport” event. Providence Farm, Rudd Farm, Waseda Farm Flowers, and Grove Winery are hosting an event. You can get a passport and visit each farm for your passport stamp. At the end of the day, they will give away a fabulous basket with a donation from each participating location. The basket will be all you need to create your next romantic date night! Follow their Instagram accounts for more information (to be posted soon).
