Day Trip Idea: Purple Alpaca Farms

By Guest Blogger Gloria Folaron

What do you get when you mix a tight lock down, an adventure hungry family and some alpacas?

You get Purple Alpaca Farms.

What do you get when you mix Purple Alpaca Farms with farm tours, educational classes, events, fiber arts and more?

A space for you to share and join in on that adventure.

Purple Alpaca was created for you and your family.  Our mission is to create a space for families to come, connect, find nature and have their own taste of farm life; having a new experience every visit.  When Purple Alpaca started, though, we knew that we weren’t the only ones that felt like 2020 had started to change the way we would live our lives.  2020 was the year that the things we thought made up our lives were suddenly on lock down.  Our experiences, activities, and even travel plans all came to a halt.  Staying at home now meant looking at ourselves outside of the busy-ness of our lives.  It forced us to take a look at what mattered to us.  Who were we without our busy-ness?  What we found was that the things that mattered to us — family, connection and purpose were all still out there. Our new normal just looked a little differently than we had expected.  And has been even more amazing than we could have hoped.

And you’re invited to join along.

Purple Alpaca Farms is a 33 acre alpaca farm with 22 alpacas, 3 dogs, 15 chickens, 5 ducks, a forest peacock, 159 apple trees, and a fibonacci inspired vegetable garden. Sound full?  Not yet!  We’re waiting for you to join us!  At Purple Alpaca, we currently host farm tours, events, classes, the AlpaCafe (coffee & farm shop), and there’s an apple orchard and CSA (community supported agriculture) coming.

Farm Tours

Did you know alpacas are related to llamas and camels? That they spit? That purple alpacas don’t exist? While alpacas do come in 22 different colors, purple is not one of them.  These are some of the things you’ll learn on a tour. Farm tours take an educational walk through our alpaca pastures.  Feed, pet, maybe cuddle an alpaca and definitely a chicken too.  Farm tours are currently available Saturday and Sundays at 10am.  Contact us for private tours.  Pre-registration required. Birthdays: COVID got your birthday party plans down? Not any more. Plan your birthday party with a small group outdoors, hanging out with some alpacas and taking a tour.  Bump up your party a notch with additional activities like felted soap making.  Purchase take home soap felting kits as party favors.  On-site photography is also available.

Weddings: Getting Married? Purple Alpaca is sure to give you an unforgettable experience. From our nearly-wed get ready suite, to our barn and outdoor backdrops, and ample party space — there’s no wrong when you have alpacas to attend your wedding.

Classes

From all ages kids classes studying Animals, Environment, Gardens and Fiber… to rigid heddle weaving classes… to our upcoming yoga with the alpacas… There is a little bit of something here for everyone.  Making classes even more affordable is our Awwwpaca Club (because when you see an alpaca, you have to go AWWW).  With our Awwwpaca Club membership, you get 4 classes a month for the price of 3, a t-shirt and discounts while staying ahead on all our future offerings.

The AlpaCafe (Farm Store)

Weaver?  Knitter? Crocheter? Just like to stay warm with the best wool to come off an animal? (Alpaca fiber, in case you’re wondering).  Our farm shop carries alpaca products, yarn and warm and cold beverages that you can enjoy on our deck by our alpaca pastures.  Watch the alpacas, sip something warm, and enjoy the open air while you wait for your little to finish their class.
