Pick-Your-Own Apple Farms & Orchards

Apple picking is always a fun adventure for families and a great way to spend an afternoon outdoors. Many local orchards are already open for picking!

Below is our list of pick-your-own apple farms and orchards within the Triad, or within a 3-hour drive if you are looking for a day trip excursion. We added notes regarding each orchard’s available crops, but be sure to call each orchard and confirm that the apples are ripe for picking before you visit.  Also, confirm operating hours, as many are closed on certain days of the week.

Perry Lowe Orchards

*U-pick open Friday, Saturdays and Sundays in September and October. Enjoy a jump pad, tractor playground, mega slide, bee train, apple cannon and beautiful mountain views. Visit their website for more information and to make a reservation. They are a 6th generation apple orchard with over 100 acres and over 30 varieties of apples to choose from. Their retail store offers apples, apple cider, hard apple cider, dried apples and much more. Their store will satisfy all your apple cravings and more.

Tour the orchard, visit the ducks in the pond as well as the farm animals, let the kids take a ride on the Cow Train through the orchard, and don’t leave without a stop at its bakery or Apple House for pre-picked apples, honey, jams, jellies and preserves, and other homemade goodies. They also just opened a new taproom.

*Dates for the 2024 season haven’t been announced, but will be available by appointment only. They will announce their fall open house online. They grow over 200 varieties of heirloom apples and while not a certified organic farm, everything is holistically-grown (check their website for an explanation of practices). While there, visit the farm store — a restored tobacco packhouse, filled with orchard mercantile such as fresh apples, apple butter, apple cider syrup, apple jams and jellies, and apple-wood crafts.
