What Makes the Triad a Great Wine Destination?

The Yadkin Valley, North Carolina’s first federally recognized American Viticultural Area (AVA), is located just west of Winston-Salem and includes dozens of award-winning wineries and vineyards. The region’s mild climate and rolling hills make it ideal for wine production and wine tourism. Towns like Elkin, Dobson, and Mt. Yadkin Valley Wineries (Elkin, Dobson, Boonville, Jonesville)

The Yadkin Valley is the heart of North Carolina’s wine country and just a short drive west of Winston-Salem. As the state’s first designated AVA (American Viticultural Area), this region is known for its sweeping vineyard views, full-bodied reds, and charming tasting rooms. Many Yadkin Valley wineries are family-owned and host weekend events, food trucks, and even wine-and-yoga mornings. Towns like Elkin and Dobson offer scenic backdrops and easy access to the Yadkin Valley wine trail, one of the most popular wine routes in the Southeast.

The owners names the vineyard and winery after Adagio because it represents their passion for classical music and wine. Open most weekends, Adagio includes a tasting room and vineyard. Description: A boutique style, family-owned vineyard in the Yadkin Valley. Wine is produced in small lots. Located just 15 minutes from Wake Forest University. They host private parties, small weddings and corporate events! Check Facebook for upcoming events to enjoy on their patio. 

Divine Llama Vineyards

Description: Divine Llama includes a vineyard, tasting room, and llama farm on 91 serene acres in the Yadkin Valley. They have the largest llama farm in the Southeast.

Elkin Creek Vineyard

Description: Locally owned and operated vineyard located in the heart of the Yadkin Valley. Visit to enjoy a century old grist mill, winery, vineyard, peaceful creek, and waterfall. They also rent four creek-side cabins, and have a kitchen that serves up made-to-order, brick oven pizzas each Sunday. 

Flint Hill Vineyards

Description: Vineyard and winery are very accessible off the highway, yet it is quiet and peaceful. Even on the hottest days of summer, you can pick a spot in the shade under the namesake elm tree, and feel a soothing breeze. Hours are Mon – Fri by appointment, Sat: 1pm – 5pm and Sun: 1pm – 5pm.

Junius Lindsay Vineyard

Description: Their boutique vineyard serves estate-grown, nationally acclaimed French style wines. All of the grape varietals are native to the Rhône Valley of Southern France. Description: Native Vines Winery is the first American Indian owned winery in the country. The winery is located in Lexington, NC on 36 acres of rolling pasture and woodland, bordered between Highway 150 – the Old Waxhaw Indian Trading Trail and Indian Grave Creek. For those with a keen eye, arrowheads can still be found when working the soil.

Wineries Near Mt. Airy, Pilot Mountain & Walnut Cove

Head north toward Mount Airy and Pilot Mountain and you’ll find wineries nestled in the foothills with stunning mountain views. These northern Triad wineries often sit on elevated landscapes with panoramic vistas, making them perfect for sipping wine while watching the sunset. This area blends small-town charm with rich winemaking traditions, and several locations also offer on-site lodging, special events, and vineyard tours. Description: Rather than house the winery at the vineyard, the owners have opened Old North State in downtown Mt. Airy with the goal of re-establishing the downtown area as a growing economic center. Housed in a former Hardware store built in 1890 on Main Street, the owners have created a fun atmosphere with wine tastings, food, live entertainment and events.

Round Peak Vineyard
