It’s almost Christmas! Your kids are probably bouncing with excitement in anticipation of the holidays. Family movie time is always a great activity, especially with potentially rainy and/or cold days ahead! You can combine it with a fun craft or activity to make it a full hands-on or longer family experience. Below are some of my family’s favorite holiday movies and some ideas of activities or food/drink to combine with them.

The Grinch

One of the best things about this movie is there are three different and fun versions. If you want to make a full movie day, watch all three! Check out this delicious and fun Grinch punch recipe your family can enjoy with one or all Grinch films.

Freeform Holiday Movies

Who else remembers ABC Family channel and all those amazing holiday movies they had? Well, a few years ago ABC Family rebranded to Freeform, but they still have all those great movies available. If you have Amazon Prime most of them are available on there or in various free apps, you can download. These movies are perfect for tweens and teens. Below are some of our favorites.

  • Christmas Cupid
  • Snowglobe
  • Holiday in Handcuffs
  • Angry Angel
  • 12 Dates of Christmas
  • Snow & Snow 2
  • Mistletones

Whether you watch one or more of the above movies, hot chocolate is always a great add-on to movie night! Don’t miss TMoM team member’s Sydney’s hot chocolate bar recipe and serving ideas in this blog.

Christmas Vacation

If you have adult children and they have not watched Christmas Vacation, then this is the year to do so! It’s hilarious and will have the entire family laughing. Depending on what you let your older teen children watch, then they might enjoy this too. However, please note it does have quite a bit of bad language and some ‘inappropriate scenes.’

For those that have watched this, then prior to watching again (it’s a classic so well worth a re-watch) have everyone share their favorite quotes to the move. Or make a game of it and see who can share the most quotes from the movie.

If you are feeling super creative, then be sure to Google ‘Christmas Vacation sugar cookies’ as there are tons of images and videos on creating those!

Classic Christmas Animated Movies

Go old school and let your little ones watch some of your favorite classic animated Christmas movies. These are perfect for all ages! Two festive and good options are Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer and Frosty the Snowman. Both these movies are fun for sing-alongs as well. Plus, you can save and print Rudolph or Frosty coloring pages so the kids can color while enjoying the movies.

Home Alone Marathon

Did you know that there are SIX Home Alone movies? Alright so not all of them are as classic as the original one, but they each provide tons of laughs and family fun. If you have Disney+ they are all on there and even have a devoted ‘Home Alone Collection’. After watching one, or multiple, movie have each family member devise their own ‘battle plan’ drawing of how they’d protect the house! You can even post the photos on your social pages and have people vote for their favorite.

These are merely a few of the amazing holiday movies out there. Share your favorites in the comment below!
