New Hope Church Helping the Community
Serving Winston-Salem with Dignity and Compassion
In Winston-Salem there are still opportunities to see a commitment to serving the community in ways that make a difference for folks needing resources with respect to these folks maintaining their dignity. So often, we see people or organizations giving with a seemingly alternative desire to be seen giving, and it feels sometimes this being seen giving is at the expense of the folks receiving. However, New Hope Church, located at 5125 Shattalon Drive in Winston- Salem, is doing a great job so quietly, it is imperative you be told about it so that you do not miss out on resources and mission that could benefit you or your neighbors.
About New Hope Church: A Global Methodist Community
Described as a “Global Methodist Community” New Hope church boasts the sentiment of serving the community with encouragement, love and dignity.
Free Community Dinner: A Monthly Gathering
Every first Thursday New Hope offers a free community dinner at 6PM. It is a very relaxed, no pressure atmosphere. They say a prayer at the start of the meal and offer lots of smiles and friendly conversations. There are no cameras, interviewers, or strings attached to the free meal. There are plenty of drinks and a variety of fruit and snacks also included in the meal. Each month the dinners have a different theme such as chilli, soups or a cookout with hotdogs and burgers. The next community dinner is September 4,2025 at 6PM.
Free Pantry and Playroom Available
In addition, there is a free pantry offered on the same evening. They even have a playroom so that your child can have somewhere to play while you shop for free!
Lending Library for All Ages
A lending library is also available. There are books for children and adults that you may take and bring back the next time you attend a community meal or event.
Volunteering Opportunities at New Hope Church
There are lots of friendly volunteers such as Susan Carpenter, who reported attending the church and even volunteering in the community meal day without having had to join the church. Another Volunteer, Allen, who is retired, says “volunteering for the food pantry has given him much joy”. This is an excellent organization to volunteer for if you are looking to become engaged in your community as it offers a very organic volunteer experience. You can email newhopechurch@gmail.com for volunteer opportunities.
Year-Round Community Events
Throughout the Year New Hope Church has a variety of free events for the community such as an Easter Egg Hunt, Fall Festival, and Back to School Bash.
No Strings Attached: Open and Welcoming to All
One of the great things about their offerings is that they require no sign–in or preregistration. No one collects your information and badgers you after the fact. The resources are open to anyone who might be in need or anyone who would like to fellowship with the community. As a result, if you attend you will encounter friendly people across various socioeconomic backgrounds in attendance at the events.
