Our First Family Camping Trip at Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park Campground in Asheboro, NC

Our First Family Camping Trip at Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park Campground in Asheboro, NC

Why We Chose Jellystone Park Asheboro

This summer, we took our 5 and 3-year-old boys on their very first camping adventure and it was incredible! We stayed at Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park Campground in Asheboro, North Carolina, just about an hour from the Triad area. We wanted the fun of a traditional camping experience, but also needed some familiar comforts with two little ones in tow. That’s why we chose one of their glamping tents. It turned out to be the perfect option for our family.

Glamping: The Perfect Balance of Comfort and Adventure

The glamping tent gave us the “camping feel” we were craving, with the added bonus of air conditioning (a lifesaver in June!). It also had a small kitchen, a private bathroom, and real beds. We still got to roast marshmallows and sit under the stars, but at the end of the day, we could retreat to a cool, clean space that made our vacation much easier with young children. It truly felt like the best of both worlds, rustic but not too rough with the extra amenities. In addition to Glamping Tents they have cabin rentals, RV campsites, and cottages.

Nonstop Family Fun and Kid-Friendly Activities

From the moment we arrived, it was clear that Jellystone Park Asheboro is designed with families in mind. Every day was packed with kid-friendly daily activities and attractions, from foam parties to craft time, dance parties, a jumping pillow, scavenger hunts, and even character meet-and-greets. The park has a rotating schedule of activities all summer long. There’s always something new for the kids to look forward to. Our boys had so much fun jumping from one activity to the next; it kept them engaged, active, and happy!

Themed Events Make It Even More Magical

One unique feature that made our weekend extra special was the themed weekend events the campground hosts all summer. We were lucky enough to visit during Yogi Bear’s Birthday Weekend, and the whole campground was in celebration mode! There were birthday-themed games, festive decorations, and even a birthday party for Yogi himself, complete with singing and cupcakes. It was a fun and immersive experience that made everything feel extra festive.

The Pool Area Was a Big Hit

The campground’s pool area quickly became a favorite spot for all of us. The pool was large, clean, and beautifully maintained, with plenty of lounge chairs and shaded areas for families to relax. Our boys were obsessed with the water slide and could have gone down it 100 times if we let them. The zero-entry section made it easy for our 3-year-old to splash around safely, while our 5-year-old felt like a big kid zipping down the slide over and over again.

Mornings with Yogi Bear and Friends

Another highlight was the morning tradition of waking up the mascots. Each morning, families gather near the ranger station to shout, “Wake up, Yogi!” and rouse the characters from their “naps.” Our boys couldn’t wait for this each day. Seeing their excitement as the costumed bears came out to dance and wave hello was such a simple joy that made each morning feel magical.

Golf Cart Rides Add to the Fun

Getting around the campground was made even more fun with our rented golf cart. While the campground is walkable, having a golf cart was a huge convenience and a hit with the kids! They loved riding around, and it made it easier to get to activities, the pool, and the camp store without hauling tired little legs across the park. We definitely recommend reserving one in advance if you’re visiting with young children.

Family-Friendly Details That Made a Difference

We also appreciated the little things that made life easier for families. Such as the clean bathhouses, shaded playgrounds, and easy check-in process. Everything felt thoughtfully designed for parents who want to relax while still keeping their kids entertained. It’s a place where you can truly let your kids be kids in a safe, playful, and welcoming environment.

Final Thoughts on Our First Family Camping Experience

As a first camping experience, Jellystone Park Asheboro completely exceeded our expectations. It gave our boys the sense of adventure and freedom they’d never experienced before; climbing rocks, waving to mascots, and making new friends with kids at the pool. And it gave us, as parents, the joy of watching them explore and thrive in the great outdoors (with a few modern comforts sprinkled in!).
