Grand Opening of NEW Outdoor Play Plaza at Miriam P. Brenner Children’s Museum
Exciting changes are happening in downtown Greensboro! The Miriam P. Brenner Children’s Museum (formerly known as the Greensboro Children’s Museum) is thrilled to unveil its brand-new Outdoor Play Plaza this Saturday, May 13, 2017. With state-of-the-art play structures, a reimagined museum entrance, and fresh spaces for learning and exploration, this is a must-visit destination for families across the Triad.
Ribbon Cutting & What’s New at the Museum
The fun kicks off when the museum opens at 10:30 AM, followed by a special ribbon cutting ceremony at 11 AM. This celebration marks the first phase of the museum’s exciting capital campaign expansion plan, which includes:
- The Outdoor Play Plaza
- A new lobby
- A fully-equipped outdoor classroom
- Enhanced entrance features such as automatic doors, a bus drop-off area, and weather-protective coverings for group visits
These improvements make the Miriam P. Brenner Children’s Museum more accessible and engaging for kids and grownups alike.
One-of-a-Kind Outdoor Play Plaza in Greensboro
The newly opened Outdoor Play Plaza is unlike anything else in the region—or the world! The centerpiece is a pair of 30-foot-tall Neptune XXL Climbers, imported from Europe, connected by a thrilling 25-foot suspended net tunnel. This impressive structure is the only one of its kind in the world and encourages adventurous, full-body play.
For younger visitors, the plaza features age-appropriate equipment like the Cosmos and Flubber Cube, designed by renowned German playground manufacturer Berliner. These innovative structures support creative problem-solving, social development, and physical activity while offering excellent visibility and safety for caregivers.

A Place for All Ages to Learn, Move, and Explore
The Miriam P. Brenner Children’s Museum is committed to providing hands-on learning and fun for children of all ages—and their families. The Outdoor Play Plaza is designed to engage the senses, foster teamwork, and provide physical challenges that help children grow and thrive.
This expansion has been made possible thanks to the incredible generosity of community donors. And the best part? It’s only the beginning.
Future phases of the museum’s growth will include:
- An indoor, interactive water feature
- A technology center geared toward kids
Construction on these additional features is expected to begin later in 2017.
