After Loss, One Triad Mom Found Hope, Support and a Care Team That Never Stopped Listening

No parent expects to hear silence when they’re waiting to hear their baby’s first cry.

A Loss No Family Is Prepared For

For High Point mom Lauren Miller, what should have been one of the happiest moments of her life became an unimaginable loss. After nearly a full day of labor with her daughter, Camryn, there were no warning signs that anything was wrong. Then suddenly, there was no heartbeat.

The weeks that followed were filled with grief, physical recovery and unanswered questions. Lauren and her husband, Hunter, searched for understanding while trying to navigate a loss no family is ever prepared to face.

Pregnancy After Loss: Hope and Understandable Fear

Months later, Lauren received unexpected news: she was pregnant again.

While the pregnancy brought hope, it also brought understandable fear. This time, Lauren wanted a care team that would help her feel supported, informed and heard throughout every step of the journey. Working with Dr. Natalie Rochester at Novant Health Deep River OB/GYN in Kernersville, Lauren found exactly that. Rochester carefully reviewed her previous pregnancy, helped explain the rare placental complication that caused Camryn’s death and reassured Lauren that nothing she did caused the loss.

“For the first time, I felt like I could start to understand,” Lauren shared.

A Care Team That Supported Body and Mind

Throughout her pregnancy, Lauren’s care team focused not only on her physical health, but also her emotional well-being. Appointments, conversations and heartbeat checks became opportunities to build trust and ease anxiety. The team even helped Lauren become familiar with the labor and delivery unit before her son’s birth, allowing her to process previous trauma in a supportive environment.

“When I walked in, people knew who I was,” Lauren said. “They checked on me. They cared.”

Welcoming Carter at Novant Health Kernersville Medical Center

On March 27, 2026, Lauren and Hunter welcomed their son, Carter, at Novant Health Kernersville Medical Center. This time, the silence in the room wasn’t from shock. It was a moment of relief, joy and healing.

While Carter’s arrival did not erase the memory of Camryn, Lauren says compassionate care, clear communication and a team that truly listened helped her reclaim something she thought she had lost forever: hope.

Finding Support After Pregnancy Loss

Pregnancy loss affects families in different ways, and healing often requires both medical and emotional support. Asking questions, seeking answers and finding a care team you trust can help parents feel more supported as they navigate grief, future pregnancies and the road ahead.

For Lauren, that support made all the difference.
