Triad Area Support Groups

You never know when your life might take a turn that feels too difficult to navigate on your own. That’s the time to find some support. We hope this list will help you find that support quickly in your time of need.  Whether the support is for you, your spouse or your child we have updated our list of many Support Groups offered near you.

There are many different types of support groups throughout the Triad and to narrow it down is difficult. We chose to focus on the categories linked below.  Simply click a category and you will be directed to a list of support groups found within that category.

Twin City Area Narcotics Anonymous

Description: Group Parenting Programs – Provide varied educational programming to best meet the needs of families. Several curricula are used by CHS including Triple P, Nurturing Parenting, and Circle of Parents. CHS Parent Educators also design presentations upon request to meet specific group needs. After Breast Cancer Class

Description: After Breast Cancer Class is a specially designed exercise class to assist you in a safe recovery after having breast cancer surgery.  In this class you will learn how to get back to full function whether your drains were just removed or if you had surgery a month ago. This one-time class is held the 1st and 3rd Monday of every month from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.

Description: CrossRoads was created in 1976 to serve adult survivors of sexual violence. In 1994, our organization grew to provide services to child survivors of sexual violence, which led to the establishment of our Child Advocacy Center (CAC) in 1996. Through our CAC, we added our evidence-based Child Therapy program and our Medical Program. Since 2017, we have added therapy services for our adult clients. And, in 2018, we merged with Alamance for Freedom, adding a human-trafficking program to our organization. Adult and child survivors now have access to expert-led programs through CrossRoads for free.

Description: To be registered with the WSO, OA meetings must fulfill the definition of an OA group, which means they meet to practice the Twelve Steps and Traditions of OA, welcome all who have the desire to stop eating compulsively, do not require members to practice any actions to remain a member or to share at a meeting, and as a group they have no affiliation other than OA.

Description: The Supportive Space Initiative offers information, support, and resources to assist pregnant and parenting college students in Winston-Salem. Under Title IX of the US Department of Education, all pregnant students at federally-funded schools are protected. This group helps them identify their rights, find local resources, and continue to succeed in their educations and family lives. The students and faculty behind this project also regularly meet and work with Wake Forest University administrators, faculty, and staff to help improve the school’s compliance with Title IX.

Description: Small group ministry for women who have experienced the loss of a baby. The  loss of a child through miscarriage, stillbirth, or early infant death can be a devastating experience. Grief affects everyone differently.  Because of that, it’s impossible to know how parents will react to the death of their child.  Even if the parent has had very little time to “know” their child, the parental connection is still strong.  This attachment can begin even before conception as dreams for the future take hold.  When a child is lost, parents also feel the loss of the future that they looked forward to spending with that child.

Description: The YWCA Teen Parent Mentor Program (TPMP) helps teen mothers succeed in school, postpone subsequent births to beyond adolescence, and deliver and raise healthy, school-ready children.  By offering positive support through case managers, doulas, mentors, and peer group meetings, TPMP helps teen mothers address many of the personal and social barriers to school continuation. The information and support offered through TPMP helps moms deliver healthy babies, increasing the likelihood that they can stay in school without the challenge of parenting children with special needs.

  1. I am in search of a support group for parents with teens who suffer with depression and anxiety. It is very difficult living with a child who is suffering and not be able to make them.

  2. You offer every kind of support to other people. But I am looking for a support group for parents that are being emotional abusive by their adult children. Texting on line and looking at a phone computer is not helping. I need to interact with others who are being mistreated. It is Emotional it is stressful it causes depression and anxiety and a variety of health problems

    1. I totally agree. There are support groups for everything except this. I desperately need interaction with other parents and moms that have been estranged by their families and children.
