Make Way for Slime
Have you ever had something in your life for so long that you don’t remember when it was introduced? It is basically another member of your family. Well, that describes the sixth member of my family: slime. My daughter is the culprit in bringing this substance into our home. I can’t remember when, but I know that it has become like another child. I even found myself getting mad at it when I saw it spilled on my floor and I attempted to clean it up.

Slime Sation
Finally, my husband and I gave in and created a slime station for my child. Then, we got a bookshelf to house all of her slimes. Oh, did I forget to mention that she makes it? Ye- she no longer buys it, but instead asks for the ingredients. At this point, my daughter is becoming a master slime-maker and I am pretty sure that I’ll need to take her to a convention at some point. That is how much slime is a part of my family.
Butter Slime
However, this past week has softened my heart towards slime, just a bit. My daughter once again asked me to make it with her. I said “no” like I normally do and went about my business. Then she asked something that intrigued me. “Can we make butter slime?” Now, I don’t know about anyone else, but butter and slime do not go together, so naturally I had to find out what this wizardry was. Then I saw it as she held one that she had already created in her hand.
Let me tell you a little bit about butter slime. To me, it doesn’t really look like butter. It looks like whipped frosted icing that you just want to lick and I love it! It doesn’t gross me out, it’s easy to handle, and it’s just so pretty. My daughter knows me well enough to know that the only way I would even touch slime is if it was called something like butter slime. So, I caved and made this concoction with her. My son joined in (he messes with his sister’s when she’s not watching anyway) and my daughter guided us, step by step, through the process. At the end of the experiment, we all walked away with our own butter slime.
I can’t say that I’ll make this again, but it was nice watching my child turn teacher-like and having her guide us perfectly through an experiment. My daughter has tried a lot of butter slime recipes, but this one is the best, in my opinion. What I love about this particular one is that it doesn’t create a huge mess and it doesn’t irritate my children’s skin. My kids have sensitive skin and this recipe does not involve contact solution, glue, etc. If you’re looking for a fun and simple thing to do with children, try out the butter slime recipe.
How to Make Slime
Ingredients
- Model magic clay (white or choose a colored bag)
- Lotion (inexpensive)
- Food coloring (if using white model magic clay)
Directions
Take clay out of the bag. Squeeze lotion onto the clay (about a child’s handful – more if you’d like). Squeeze 2-3 drops of food coloring (only if using white clay) onto the clay. Knead the clay until the lotion and food coloring is perfectly mixed in. The clay should look one color.
