Everyone’s Playground Recreation Acres

Everyone’s Playground at Recreation Acres (King, NC)

This all-inclusive recreation acres playground opened in 2018, thanks to the incredible efforts of Make A Difference in King (MADIK), a nonprofit that raised funds and coordinated construction. Designed with accessibility in mind, Everyone’s Playground includes a wheelchair swing, therapeutic swings, musical play stations, sensory panels, a Braille wall, and a merry-go-round that accommodates wheelchairs. A separate area is designated for younger children, while older kids have their own larger structures to explore. The Mickey Mouse-themed rock climbing wall and colorful artwork around the park make it extra fun and Instagram-worthy.

Every part of the playground has a purpose. From sensory stimulation to inclusive movement, it’s a space where all kids can play side-by-side.

Playground Music

There is an entire musical section with bells, drums, and chimes. There is a wall of Braille! The artwork around the park is colorful and creative. On the “big kids” side, the rock wall is covered with Mickey Mouse characters (a current favorite of my sons so we spend a lot of time over there). The time and attention that went into designing and creating this park is astounding. You can find something new every visit!

Recreation Acres Park Amenities (Walking Trails, Sports Fields & More)

Recreation Acres is more than just a playground—it’s a full outdoor recreation complex. The paved walking track circles the main park and is 0.6 miles long. Take the sidewalk to the soccer field and loop around, and you’ll add another 0.6 miles. It’s great for parents wanting to get some steps in while kids play.

You’ll also find:

  • A full community building with a rentable kitchen and event space
  • Athletic Fields
    • Six lighted baseball and softball fields
    • Soccer fields used by local youth leagues (NTSoccerClub.com)
  • A large open field for running or ball games
  • Two picnic shelters, one right by the playground

Recreation Acres Dog Park and Disc Golf Course

Families with dogs will love the Rec Acres Dog Park. Built in 2020, it features separate areas for large and small dogs, water stations, and fun agility equipment. It’s open from sunrise to sunset and accessed from the soccer complex side of the park at 136 Rec Acres Ln.

Another fun feature? The 9-hole disc golf course, added in 2022. It begins near the dog park and winds through wooded areas before looping back toward the walking trail. It’s great for all skill levels, and if you don’t own discs, the King Public Library loans out sets for free!

There are so many fun and unique playgrounds around the Triad, but Recreation Acres has quickly moved to the top of our list! I highly recommend visiting and hope you enjoy it as much as we did!

How Crowded Is Recreation Acres?

One thing I was hesitant about before visiting this park was crowds. This was a big, beautiful, unique park, so I prepared for a congested playground. I am not a big fan of busy playgrounds. I enjoy having some space to play and allow my son to play independently without losing him in the crowd. The great thing about Everyone’s Playground is the way it is set up. There is plenty of space and equipment for a very large crowd. The parking lot was pretty full when we pulled up. Yet, when we got into the playground, it didn’t feel busy at all. We had plenty of space to play and explore all areas of the playground without having to wait (with the exception of the merry-go-round because COME ON! That thing is awesome!).

Who Will Love Everyone’s Playground

  • Children with disabilities or sensory needs
  • Parents looking for a safe, spacious playground
