Best Things to Do in Williamsburg with Kids
Explore Colonial Williamsburg with Kids

Colonial Williamsburg isn’t just for history buffs. It’s an immersive experience that brings the past to life in the most exciting way for kids. You can walk around the entire outdoor Historic Colonial Williamsburg area for free, but If you want to enter historic buildings or watch certain indoor demonstrations, you will need to purchase a Colonial Williamsburg admission ticket. If we had older kids we would probably do more of the tours, but just walking around outside was perfect for our small children.
Colonial Williamsburg Highlights For Kids:Â
- Duke of Gloucester Street: A stroller-friendly promenade filled with costumed interpreters, historic shops, and space to roam. There was a market along the side that we stopped and got a wooden flute for the kids to play as we roamed the streets.
- Carriage Rides: Hop into a horse-drawn carriage for a 15-minute ride through town. This was the highlight of Colonial Williamsburg for our little ones. This requires a special ticket. Carriage rides are NOT included in Colonial Williamsburg admission. You must purchase carriage ride tickets separately at the Lumber House Ticket Office Located on Duke of Gloucester Street. Arrive at the ticket center when it opens in the morning. Tickets often sell out very quickly, sometimes within the first hour, especially on weekends and during events.
