Exhibits — Two Floors of Hands-On Play
Around Town — First Floor
A kid-size version of a real community — fire truck, grocery store, post office, and more. The new To the Rescue ambulance exhibit (opened June 2026 in partnership with WakeMed Children’s) is a standout addition, letting kids explore how healthcare workers save lives.
EcoSphere — First Floor

Play with solar, wind, and hydropower through hands-on activities. Kids experiment with renewable energy and learn to make choices that support a greener future.
Hit the Trail — First Floor
Outdoor adventure indoors. Kids pretend to camp, kayak, and care for woodland creatures in a beautifully designed nature-themed space.
imagiFAB — First Floor

Create, make, build, and animate. A collaborative making and design space where kids construct, invent, and craft using unique materials and tools. Kids can lose an hour here easily.
Kid Grid — Second Floor

Engineering and STEAM-focused with hands-on activities that make electricity and energy concepts genuinely tangible.
Moneypalooza — Second Floor
A colorful, high-energy world of money where kids explore healthy money habits. Includes a stationary bike that powers money-earning activities — one of the more unique exhibits in the museum.
Playway — Outdoor

Marbles transformed their central courtyard into the Marbles Playway — vibrant shade structures, picnic tables, pollinator pal climbers, green space, and native plants. Won the 2025 Sir Walter Raleigh Award for Community Appearance. Included with museum admission.
Power2Play — Second Floor

Skate, tumble, twirl, toss, and balance your way to active play. Physical activity meets healthy habit education.
River Playway — First Floor

Immerse yourself in the sights and sounds of the Neuse River. Slide “underwater” and make discoveries in the Ranger Station.
Seedlings — Second Floor / Outdoor
From seed to sprout to garden oasis. Pretend to plant fruits, vegetables, and colorful flowers.
Splash — First Floor
One of the museum’s most beloved exhibits — a pirate ship, yellow science submarine, and a custom 65-foot-long water table. Bring a change of clothes. Kids will get wet. Smocks are available on-site but a full outfit change is the move.
Stepnotes — Staircase
Take the stairs for a larger-than-life musical experience. Musical notes trigger as kids walk — one of those unexpectedly delightful features kids want to do over and over. Easy to miss if you take the elevator every time.
Sun Sprouts — Outdoor
A real kids garden where the exhibits change seasonally.
Toddlers Hollow — First Floor
Specifically designed for children under 3 — a magical woodland environment where youngest visitors can crawl around with woodland critters in a safe, appropriately scaled space.
Under the Waves — Second Floor
An immersive, multi-sensory experience designed for sensory exploration. Color-changing bubble tubes, weighted octopuses, and a quieter, calmer space for play. Received the ASTC Roy L. Shafer Leading Edge Award for its thoughtful inclusive design. Excellent for sensory-sensitive children who need a calmer environment.
Futuropolis — Coming 2026
A brand-new exhibit in partnership with the Conlon Family and Novo Nordisk, designed to inspire the next generation of North Carolina’s workforce. Check the website for the opening date.
NC Courage Soccer Exhibit — Coming 2026
A Courage-themed soccer exhibit co-sponsored by NC Courage and First Horizon Foundation. Check the website for the opening date.
IMAX Theater
Marbles operates one of the only kid-focused IMAX theaters in North Carolina. Giant-screen nature documentaries, science films, and adventure movies in a format that genuinely delivers.
Current IMAX films in rotation (July 2026):
- The Blue Angels 3D — never-before-seen IMAX footage inside the Navy’s elite Flight Demonstration Squadron

- Superpower Dogs 3D — life-saving dogs and their extraordinary bravery
- Under the Sea 3D — face-to-face encounters with stunning sea creatures

- Under the Waves for sensory-sensitive kids. The quieter, calmer exhibit for a break from the energy of the rest of the museum.
