Dance Your Summer Away at Greensboro Ballet
By Guest Blogger Jennifer Gentry, marketing director for Greensboro Ballet
Summers have always been a time to feel free! A time to dream, play and just . . . be a kid. The School of Greensboro Ballet invites the children of the Triad to come run, skip, leap and twirl their summertime away in one or more of their Summer Dance Camps. Register for camp by April 28th and SAVE $10 on tuition. Register with a Friend and SAVE an additional $5.
See below for a description of each of the camps we offer for different age groups.
Children’s Dance Camps (Ages 3-6): Our very popular and fun week-long camps include creative movement activities with various themes. Dancers, girls and boys, learn basic ballet, work on motor skills, play fun dance games, create theme-related crafts, have a story time and enjoy a snack (that we provide). Parents and friends are invited to a special showing on the last day. This year’s weekly themes include: Princess 1 & 2, Sea & Sand, Frozen, Animal Adventures, Flowers & Fairies, My Favorite Doll and Superheros.
Dance Camps (Ages 7-10): For these two camps, students will have a ballet technique class, crafts, theme related activities, rehearsals and a presentation on the last day of the camp for family and friends. For Superheros Camp, boys & girls will have “out of this world” fun as they stop evil and save the day! Join Spiderman, Wonder Woman, Batman, Supergirl, the Flash and many more as they run, jump and “fly” through a week of action-packed fun. Save your superhero costumes to put yourself into character for our end of week performance! For Nutcracker Camp, students will not only improve their ballet technique, but it will also give them an idea of what to expect when our Nutcracker Auditions arrive next Fall. Learn various dances from the Nutcracker ballet, imagine yourself as the lovely Clara or her brave Nutcracker Prince and explore all the magic of this enchanting Winter ballet.
Dancers & Dolls “Around the World” Camp (Ages 7-11): Bring your favorite doll with you to this half-day, week-long summer camp full of dance, play, crafts, field trips, parties and more. We pack so much into this camp, it is like getting two camps for the price of one. No prior dance experience is necessary. Pack your bags, bring your doll and prepare for the adventure of a lifetime as we travel across the globe this week! We’ll start our journey at an Oktoberfest celebration in Germany, learn about the fiery Flamenco dance in Spain, and then jump alongside some kangaroos in the scenic outback of Australia. We’ll also escape the summer heat with a “frozen” picnic at the North Pole, and then conclude our trip with a search for treasure, buried deep inside the ancient pyramids of ancient Egypt.
For those “balletomanes” out there that desire intensive ballet and other training during the Summer, the School of Greensboro Ballet has several options.
Young Dancers Workshop (Ages 11-14): For the serious young dancer who can’t get enough of dance, a one week camp for intermediate students with at least four years of ballet training. Each day, students will have a classical ballet technique class and an additional class in another dance discipline (Jazz, Modern, Ballroom). They will also have rehearsals each day for a showing to be performed on the last day. In this challenging but fun workshop, young male and female dancers will increase their technique, stamina and performance skills.
Ballet Boot Camp (Ages 13 & up): Prepare for any Summer Intensives you’ll be attending or use this week as a mini Summer Intensive all on its own. Female and male students must be in an advanced level for Ballet Boot Camp, having at least six years of classical ballet training. Classical ballet, pointe, contemporary/modern and strengthening classes will increase your flexibility, muscle strength and technique during this one week camp.
Open Classes are also offered at the School of Greensboro Ballet throughout the entire Summer for ages 3 & up, with a modest fee/class. See the Ballet’s website for exact dates and times for each age group and level.
The School of Greensboro Ballet is the only non-profit ballet school in the Greensboro area and one of a relative few in the country. Its goal is to offer the finest dance education to children of all ages. At SGB, your child will learn the art of dance in an environment of both discipline and fun.
Greensboro Ballet was recently named “Favorite Child Enrichment Program” in the GSO/Burlington area for the 2017 TMoM Choice Awards. We were also the only dance school in the entire Triad to be nominated for “Favorite Summer Camp!”
