Father’s Day Gift Ideas from Babies
By TMoM Team Member Suzy Fielders
Father’s Day is a great time to celebrate dad and make him feel special. If you have a baby, especially a year or younger, it is hard to come up with gift ideas since babies can’t really do a whole lot!
My almost one-year-old daughter was born last year the day after Father’s Day. I joked with my husband that if she had been born on Father’s Day it would have been the best gift and couldn’t top that!
Now that she’s almost a year old I’ve been struggling to figure out gift ideas to let it be something ‘from her’. While they are so sweet, babies aren’t exactly ready to get into the gift giving notion quite yet.
But, after some brainstorming I came up with some ideas to help not only myself but others out there with babies!
Customized Gifts
One great idea for a customized gift for dad is creating something he will like, and use, with baby’s photo. Below are a few ideas of items that are easily customizable on Shutterfly or Amazon that dads would like.
- Magnet
- Tumbler
- Hat
- Playing cards
- Sweatshirt or t-shirt
If you search customizable gifts on either of those sites mentioned above, there is an abundance of ideas. I recommend you look through those and find something your baby’s dad would like best!
Handprint and/or Footprint Signs
This is the gift I opted for this year. I thought it’d be fun to capture our daughter’s footprints and handprints at this young age so he can look back on them.
For ours, I got this non-toxic ink from Amazon. I also opted for card stock paper so it would be thicker and hold up better. Finally, I added some sweet text onto the paper. I plan to put them in a double frame like this one from Amazon.
Tips:
- I’d recommend having a ‘helper’ assist with this as it’s not easy with a squirmy baby. My 16-year-old daughter was my assistant!
- Let the baby look at and interact with the paper first.
- It’s easier to let them put their own feet and hands on the piece of paper or at least guide you to where they want to go. This means you will have a few attempts before you get the one you want.
- Be mindful – it’s a baby doing this so shoot for memories not perfection!
Digital Frame with Pre-loaded Photos
There are tons of digital frame options out there. Once you select and receive one, then preload it with some favorite family and baby photos! Then dad can proudly display this at home or work.
Home Video with Favorite Baby Memories
Have you ever seen Christmas Vacation? If yes, do you remember that part where is locked in the attic watching the old family movies? Those are some of the best ones to watch to never forget those precious moments.
Today’s technology makes it super easy – and often free – to put together a home movie. You can utilize video clips and photos you already have, or make a few new ones, and compile them into one fun video.
Book with Handwritten Message
Last, but not least, find a book about or for dads like this one pictured. There are a ton of options out there now! For Father’s Day last year, I knew our baby would either not be born yet or too close to the holiday to do much. Therefore, I bought this book pictured and wrote a little note in there for Father’s Day.
I hope this blog inspires you to come up with some memorable and fun gifts ‘from baby’ that daddy will love!
