Go Crazy for Chocolate with Loco for Coco

By Susan D. Andrews, owner of Loco for Coco

I started my tenth year as a teacher in a local school system in the Fall of 2012. While I had experienced several good years teaching in various schools, budget cuts forced me into a position where I was teaching dance at four schools a week, juggling middle school and high school curricula and attitudes, teaching one day in a state-of-the-art dance studio and the next in a roach-infested locker room. When the opportunity arose to buy Loco for Coco and change my family’s life, I gladly said “good-bye” to the roaches. Now I am in a very happy chocolate place.

Are you crazy for chocolate? I am and it seems most people are. Yesterday, Jennifer Lester of UNCG’s Graduate School, was in Loco for Coco to buy some gifts for a department function. She said that the last time she bought truffles from us, the recipients “raved” about the chocolate. Now we’re her “go-to” for simple thank-you gifts. Lots of busy moms in the area come to Loco for teachers’ gifts – our four piece truffle for $5.50 is perfect.

One of my customers, Christina, introduced me to Triad Moms on Main. She comes in when she’s a bit overwhelmed with the challenges of two active preschoolers and gets one or two of our best-selling truffles, Dark Chocolate Caramel with Sea Salt. We love to see her coming into Loco.

We have a great location near the Target Shopping Center on Lawndale Drive in Greensboro. We’re near Southern Lights Restaurant, next to Maison, in the Shops at Kirkwood. By the way, did you know that Maison is moving into the corner spot vacated by Cocoon (now at The Pink Door)? Their consignments look great in the new, light-filled location. Convenient parking right near the stores, easy in and out from Lawndale or Battleground.  If you’re not up to fighting Friendly, we understand and we’re here.

Have you heard about the Fifth Basic Food Group? Yes, chocolate. We have decadent choices ready for PMS cravings like David Bradley’s milk chocolate-covered potato chips, but also healthful choices like Mexican-style, stone-ground Taza organic 70% dark chocolate in flavors like salted almond and guajillo chili. Vegan, gluten-free, kosher, local, sugar-free – we can accommodate your needs and preferences.

Speaking of kosher, Hanukkah and Thanksgiving are almost here. Last year we had quite a few Jewish customers asking for better quality chocolate gelt, and and now we have the excellent Lake Champlain gelt coins in adorable gift boxes as well as yummy chocolate-covered Oreos from Sweet Shop. Kosher chocolate can also be wrapped in silver boxes with pretty blue ribbon for a Hanukkah gift.

For your Thanksgiving table we have handsome gift turkeys in milk and dark as well as cute place-setting turkeys. Special drawing: Spend $25 at Loco and you can be entered into a drawing for a stunning 3 lb. chocolate turkey for your centerpiece and later dessert! This is a big girl ready for fun.

Save the Earth – it’s the only planet with chocolate.

I love that one. Here’s another favorite:
Money talks, but chocolate sings.

Yes! We’d love for you to sing with us at Loco for Coco Gourmet Chocolates.
