It’s (almost) Apple Picking Season!
By Katie Moosbrugger
Whether you have just an afternoon, a full day, or an entire weekend available for picking, you’re sure to find a fun adventure for your family with apple picking. I called and confirmed all of the farms featured in today’s blog are open for business. Not every farm has ripe apples for picking just yet, but some do. The majority of these farms will be open for apple picking after Labor Day weekend. However, like we say in our blueberry and strawberry posts, it’s always a good idea to call before you go. Let us know if you’ve been to one of these farms or if you have another farm we should add to our list!

Did we leave your favorite farm off our list? Let us know in the comments below!
To answer the question from anonymous today, unfortunately I do not know that answer. I think each farm is different. I suggest contacting the ones that are close to you to confirm. For next year, that is a good idea to include that information in the blog – will do!
Are any of these organic, pesticide free?
I actually live in Alexander County, and highly recommend J & A Orchard. Jimmy Land is one of the nicest men you’ll ever meet, and has many varieties of delicious apples and other tasty treats. Definitely worth the trip if you’re traveling from out of town!
We went to J & A in Alexander County a couple of years ago and it was outstanding. There were so many apples that we were overwhelmed, and they have apple goodies you can buy—esp. apple cider doughnuts. You can also take a wagon ride around the orchard with the owner/farmer. It’s a lot of fun and you get close enough to the mountains to really feel like fall is coming.
