Pigtails & Crewcuts Excited to Open Soon!
By Guest Blogger Angel Putnam, Pigtails & Crewcuts Owner
My husband and I will be opening a Pigtails and Crewcuts franchise here in Greensboro this January. The latest opening brings the number of Pigtails & Crewcuts salons to more than 45 across the country. We will follow the Pigtails & Crewcuts model of giving children of all ages and even their parents, great haircuts in a whimsical space designed just for kids. As soon as you step in, you are surrounded by bright colors and a space filled with joy. The Greensboro children’s hair salon will be the first for our family. We have been in the franchise business before and we fell in love instantly with this franchise because of us having three children.
When it opens, the salon will have chairs shaped like airplanes and automobiles, as well as chairs for mom, dad and older siblings. With a wooden train table and a variety of toys, books, movies and video games, children actually look forward to visiting the salon—and so do mom and dad. We truly try and take the stress that tends to come along with haircuts off the entire family with a large, bright and fun space.
We have two boys who are 11 and 4 and a daughter who is 5. Our oldest son struggles with PTSD and this makes getting a haircut particularly challenging at times. When we learned about the Pigtails & Crewcuts salon franchise, which specializes in accommodating all children to make a haircut an enjoyable experience, we knew it would be a great fit for our family and community. As a mom, I always felt awkward taking the children to “my adult” salon with the glass shelving and my feeling that most moms “ESCAPE” to the salon for a bit of relaxation and quiet time, I felt I was interrupting that time. I wanted a place where there was no judgment, where our kids could be kids, laughing and talking at a normal child level voice with out worry.
A lot of our friends also have kids with sensory issues. It’s a pretty common occurrence today, yet parents often don’t speak of it, and the many challenges the issues present. We are so happy to be able to provide a pleasant environment for the kids, and a stress-free place that parents will be happy to take their kids for a haircut. It’s a win-win for everyone in my opinion. They can play, they can laugh, they can even cry and we will make it the best experience ever for everyone because being a kid is most important.
We knew we wanted to start a kid-based business, and after researching the options, it quickly became clear to us that Pigtails & Crewcuts is the best fit for our family and for the greater Greensboro area. We wanted to open a franchise because neither one of us has any haircutting or salon background. We knew a franchise would provide a model that would guide us. We looked at the other competing franchises, and we just felt that the design, the layout, the website and the support provided by the Pigtails & Crewcuts team made the most sense to us. After doing our due diligence and discovering the need for this service within our community, we jumped at the opportunity.”
I will be running the salon, while my husband, Robert, will be helping out behind the scenes, while also working full time. In addition to providing a service that everyone needs—a haircut—we also look forward to working with a variety of children-centric non-profits and hospitals in the areas, helping out with food drives, donations and providing salon services to sick children and kids in need. Our goal, in the next five years, is to open three to four more Pigtails & Crewcuts salons all while giving back to the community that has welcomed them with such open arms. We fully believe in community partnership and would love the opportunity to give back to our community in anyway we are able.
In addition to providing haircuts, hair styling and an array of organic, vegan friendly hair-care products, Pigtails & Crewcuts has a party room reserved for birthday parties, spa parties, pirate parties and other themed celebrations for both boys and girls. Our parties include everything from the punch and balloons to the cupcakes and crafts. The parents only need to bring a camera and the birthday child. We really want to take the stress out of it all and we truly think we have done that here. I can not wait for you to see the costumes we provide for the children to wear during their event! It is definitely a party to remember for all. We also offer ear piercings services for ears of all ages. We use the world renowned Studex company for both our equipment and products.
We were hoping to open in time to meet and share in the Holiday season with you however, due to uncontrollable construction complications we now have our sights set on the first two weeks of January! Please, find us on Facebook and follow us on our journey to bringing the best children’s salon, birthday party and all around good times to our beautiful city. If you would like to know more, please don’t hesitate to message me through our page as well and I will answer or help in anyway I can until our Grand Opening.
